Recreation Board Meeting Minutes from April 14, 2026 • Chair Saha called for a motion. o Board Member Kline offered a motion to approve the minutes, as presented, from April 14, 2026, Recreation Board meeting. o Board Member Norton seconded the motion. • The motion was approved (6-0). V. ASSOCIATION PRESENTATION a. AYSA Presentation Shannon Gill presented, she is the President of AYSA. There were a lot of questions regarding the capacity of the program and field space. Shannon stated that they were about at capacity due to the field space that is available to them. The program is thriving now that the proper people are in place. VI. STAFF PRESENTATIONS a. DIVISIONS i. Community Agricultural & Sustainability Division – Amanda Musilli Amanda came forward to present the current events. She stated that renovations were taking place and plans are being made to keep things moving during construction. ii. Cultural Services Division – Kim Zane - Kim was not present, her report was online. iii. Recreation Services Division – Lindsey Pritchard Lindsey came forward to present the current events. RECREATION Q & A Q How is the Summer Camp staffing? (Saha) A We are great, ready for the kids. (Pritchard) Q What do you attribute that to? (Rand) A Not sure, maybe more social media posts. (Pritchard) Q What jobs are you staffing? (Norton) A Camp Directors, Camp Counselors, Lifeguards, Cashiers, etc. (Pritchard) Q Taste of Alpharetta, what numbers are you expecting. (Holcombe) A Over 25,000 people. (Pritchard) iv. Park Services Division (Excluding Wills Park) – Eric Milley – Eric was not present, his report was online. v. Park Services Division (Including Wills Park) – Matt Casey Matt came forward to present the current events. RECREATION Q & A Q Disc Golf, how is the coming along? (Saha) A It is in the works. (Casey) Q What is the orange fencing by the Grove at Wills Park? (Piedrahita) A They are repouring the circle around the Grove. (Casey) Q Opening day of Wacky World? RECREATION Q & A Q Lights at North Park, are the hours going to be extended? (Rand) A No, 11:00 p.m. is still in effect. (Young) Q Paving at North Park? (Rand) A Yes, we are reconfiguring the lot and handicapped spaces. (Young) vii. DIRECTOR i. Director Rodgers will update the Board. Director Rodgers came forward with the following items: • Light Poles at North Park are ready to go. The Light Poles at Wills Park are awaiting the approval of the budget. • Webb Bridge dog park, the landscaping has been completed due to a donation that was made. It looks really nice. • Webb Bridge Trail project is getting ready to start. • We have promoted Tyler Edmiston to Greenway Supervisor. • Kim is working on the next round of temporary art and she is working on keeping a few pieces that we really like. • Kim is also working on an East Side art display. • Spotlight Stage continues to exceed our expectations. • July 4th Fireworks are ready and we are going to have an enhanced finale due to the 250th birthday of the Country. We are also going to have a band on Town Green on July 3rd as well as a Drone Show. • Kim was able to get an original Peter Max painting that will be on display at City Hall the week of July 4th. • The Farm House project is well underway. Kim is involved in this with the Historical markers. • The House at the Farm project is still in the works. We have applied for a grant and we are waiting to hear back on that. • We are going to be doing a fee study for our entire Department. • Director Rodgers showed some pictures at Wills Park. • Director Rodgers showed some pictures at Encore Gateway Park. • Director Rodgers showed some pictures at The North Park Restroom/Concession Stand. RECREATION BOARD Q & A Q When was a fee study completed previously? (Piedrahita) A Never, we have only completed this internally. (Rodgers) Q At the workshop this month, are we going to discuss the budget? (Rand) A It has been completed, we can discuss it at length. (Rodgers) Q Farm House plaques, are they going to change the museum to reflect this? (Rand) A Kim and her group are looking at the museum to see if there is a way to revamp it. (Rodgers) Q Building a porch at the House at the Farm, what about the bathroom? (Rand) A No, that is the part of the renovation project. (Rodgers) Q The repaving project at the AAAC, how long will it take? (Rand) Page 3 of 4 Page 6 of 30 A There are 2 parts to this project, we are moving and ADA parking and making the other ADA parking to code and then we will have the repaving start. (Rodgers) Q What is being completed at the Log Cabin? (Holcombe) A We are working on improving the parking and access to the parking at that building. (Rodgers) Q For the temporary art you asked the Citizens in the past which ones they wanted to keep, are you planning to do that again? RECREATION Q&A Q What percentage of our current fees cover the cost of the program? (Piedrahita) A Approximately, one-third of the fee. (Rodgers) Q Are there other Stakeholders in the City asking for this to be completed? (Piedrahita) A No, I was not asked to do this, we were just asked to look at Revenues. (Rodgers) b. Budget Morgan walked the Board through how to locate the budget online and then went through the items that pertained to Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services. Page 9 of 30 RECREATION Q&A Q Is 2.4% average for the increase? (Kline) A Yes, and I am pleased with it. (Rodgers) Q How are you able to make money at Taste of Alpharetta? (Rand) A Through Sponsors and the amount of restaurants that partake. (Rodgers) Q Any surprises in the Revenues? (Piedrahita) A The only one is that the Equestrian Center should be higher. (Rodgers) Q Athletics versus Community Center Activity Fees? (Rand) A The Athletics fee includes sports and the Camps and Programs are the Community Center. (Rodgers) Q The Community Stage Revenue? (Piedrahita) A Not sure, I will check on this. (Rodgers) Q The Community Garden Fee seems high? (Rand) A I will check what that includes. (Rodgers) Q How are we doing with the FY26 Operating Budget? ITEM DESCRIPTION: Monthly Highlights: • Community Agriculture as Essential Infrastructure – We hosted the two meetings with community leaders to discuss ways to increase community-based local food for those in need. During the June 16th meeting, the idea for Homegrown Harvest was developed, and the following week the city’s second food donation program was launched. Modeled after the Grow-A-Row program, but leveraging backyards as the growing space, this program brings together residents, NFCC, and the city to bring fresh vegetables and herbs to the food pantry. Our goal is to have 30 households join the program. After one week of registration, we have 10 people signed up to grow. • Fall Garden Starts – The seedlings for the fall/winter gardens are already starting to sprout in the germination room. ITEM DESCRIPTION: MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS: Adult Activity Center Parking lot improvement project repaving starting as soon as late July – early August On July 31 our Line Dance Showcase will take place at The Spotlight Stage at North Point Mall 5-7pm On August 1, we will be presenting art from our 55+ participants at the Community Gallery at City Hall. The show will be up for six weeks The City of Alpharetta will be hosting the GRPA Senior Talent Show on Saturday, September 12 at 10am at Innovation Academy Athletics New Sun shades will be installed in royal blue at the Wills Park Tennis Courts over the next few weeks. New basketball camp location on the east side of 400 at Valor Christian Academy, July 20th-23rd Triple Crown Softball Tournament will be held at North Park, July 16th-19th The new concession stand and new concrete poles/LED lighting at the North Park Quad will be completed the week of July 13 Our tennis instructor Jamie Gessner had record breaking numbers this summer in her Pickleball and Pool camps and Swim and Tennis Camps Our new self-defense, Alpha Warrior program had 14 women attend the first class on Saturday, June 27th at the Crabapple Government Center. Classes for kids and adults will be held year round. Aquatics/Health & Wellness We successfully completed another Sharks Swim Team season in June with 203 swimmers. Saw an increased in participation in our water exercise classes and Senior Swim. Hosted another great Hero Day event in June. Fall Power Hour schedule is posted with 2 event nights and even more studios participating than in the Spring. Staff has been working on updating our web presence, through redesigning our storymaps page (that now redirects from www.alpharetta.ga.us/wellness Community Center Hosting an Exceptional Event – Rock Star Night on Thursday, July 16th from 6:30-7:30pm Concluding a successful summer with a week of Wills Park Daily Chill the week of July 27-31 with daily enrollment Save the date Boo Bash 2026 is Saturday, October 17 3pm-7pm Recreation Division camps (City run and independent contractor based) served over 2,530+ youth this summer Special Events Kicked off the beginning of the World Cup with “Kickoff on the Green” in partnership with Central City Tavern in Page 27 of 30 conjunction with Alpharetta Moonlight Market and On the Green Concert Series. Photo of the event went viral on social, and we have seen a continued World Cup interest within the community. Celebrated America’s 250 with the city’s first ever Drone Show + Concert event on July 3rd. The event saw record- breaking attendance. Successful July 4th Fireworks event within Wills Park. ITEM DESCRIPTION: MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS: • The Spine walkway has come along nicely throughout the park. They have been focusing on working their way from the Grove towards the upper fields. The West Gateway foundation has been poured. • Waggy world is complete. • At the Equestrian Center Arena 2 site has been graded and the Footing contractor has started with fencing and underlayment. Arena 4 sitework has started to be followed by its renovation. • July 4th Celebration went great! The Special Events and Parks Team worked extremely hard to produce a wonderful event. MONTHLY INITIATIVES: • Continue focusing on park enhancements and continuing summer operations.
