MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HELD IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES ROOM ON NOVEMBER 6, 2024 Commission Lynn Szabo called the meeting to order at 3:00p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to approve the final Police Officer Entry Level eligibility list - November, review and approve past meeting minutes, interview entry level police officer candidates as part of the background process, discuss eligibility of specific police officer candidates, review and approve to keep the prior closed session minutes closed. Roll call of members: Luis Ramirez-Alonso, Commissioner Lynn Szabo, Commissioner Also present were: Kelly Livingston, Fire & Police Commission Liaison Joe Pinnello, Deputy Police Chief Citizens to be heard: No one in attendance At 3:04p.m. Commissioner Szabo moved to go into Closed Session per 5ILCS120/2(c) (1): appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees or legal counsel. Motion was seconded by Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh At 4:20p.m. Commissioner Szabo moved to end Closed Session and go to Open Session. Motion was seconded by Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh Commissioner Szabo moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of September 30, 2024. Motion was seconded by Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh Commissioner Szabo moved to approve the Closed Session minutes of September 30, 2024. Motion was seconded by Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh Commissioner Ramirez-Alonso made a motion to approved the 2024 Entry Level Police Officer Eligibility List - November. Motion was seconded by Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh 1|Page Commissioner Ramirez-Alonso moved to disqualify applicant, candidate # B4, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Szabo. Motion approved. Motion was seconded by Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh Commissioner Ramirez-Alonso moved to disqualify applicant, candidate # B27, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh 2|Page The Commission reviewed and discussed keeping the Closed Session Minutes closed for 3/1/2024 thru 10/31/2024 per open meetings act 5ILCS 1201 2 (c) (21): Discussion of minutes lawfully closed, whether for purposes of approval of the minutes or the semi-annual review of the minutes. Commissioner Ramirez-Alonso moved to keep all closed session minutes closed. No closed session minutes were released after review. Motion was seconded by Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh At the conclusion of the interview for Police Officer, the Board determined two individuals to have met the criteria and continue the candidates in the process and one candidate to not met criteria to not be moving forward in the process. Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate #23 in the process for Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Luis Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate #13 in the process for Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Luis Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Absent: Walsh Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to disqualify applicant, candidate #22, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved.
