MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION OF THE
VILLAGE OF ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HELD IN THE COMMISSIONS ROOM ON
NOVEMBER 19, 2024
Commissioner Dean Walsh called the meeting to order at 3:03p.m. The purpose of this meeting
is to review and approve past meeting minutes, presentation from both the Fire & Police Chief of
department highlights and updates, vote of the next chairperson for the Board of Fire & Police
Commission, and discuss eligibility of a specific police officer candidate.

Luis Ramirez-Alonso, Commissioner
Lynn Szabo, Commissioner
Also present were: Kelly Livingston, Fire & Police Commission Liaison
Nick Pecora, Police Chief
Lance Harris, Fire Chief
Curt Hanselman, Deputy Fire Chief
Citizens to be heard: No one in attendance
Fire Chief Lance Harris and Deputy Fire Chief Curt Hanselman updated the Commission on the
department’s 2024 accomplishments, future plans for equipment and vehicles for the upcoming
years and shared recruitment efforts and updates on current vacancies.
Police Chief Pecora discussed the overview of 2024, shared the 2024 department goals and
objectives and provided information on anticipated vacancies and recruitment efforts along with
an update on department training achievements, applied and received grants and recent awards
received by the department and Officers.
Police Chief Nick Pecora, Fire Chief Lance Harris, and Deputy Fire Chief Curt Hanselman left
the meeting.
Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to elect Dean Walsh as Chairperson.
All Commissioners agreed.
Roll call: Ayes: Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Pass: Walsh Nayes: None
At 4:06p.m. Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to go into Closed Session per
5ILCS120/2(c) (1): appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or
dismissal of specific employees or legal counsel.
Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.
Motion approved.
Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None
At 4:15p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to end Closed Session and go to Open Session.
Motion was seconded by Luis Ramirez-Alonso.
Motion approved.

Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of
November 6, 2024.
Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.
Motion approved.
Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None
Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to approve the Closed Session minutes of November
6 2024.
Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.
Motion approved.
Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None
Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to disqualify applicant, candidate #B13, from
further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire
and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications.
Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.
Motion approved.

There being no further business to discuss, Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso made a motion
to adjourn Open Session at 4:17p.m.
