MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HELD IN THE HANSON ROOM ON FEBRUARY 18, 2025 Commissioner Dean Walsh called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to review and approve past meeting minutes, interview Firefighter candidates as part of the background process, discuss eligibility of specific Firefighter candidates. Roll call of members: Dean Walsh, Chairperson Lynn Szabo, Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso, Commissioner Also present were: Kelly Livingston, Fire & Police Commission Liaison Dave Roberts, Fire Division Chief Citizens to be heard: No one in attendance Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of December 31, 2024. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Abstain: Ramirez-Alonso At 3:01p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to go into Closed Session per 5ILCS120/2(c) (1): appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees or legal counsel. Motion was seconded by Luis Ramirez-Alonso. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None At 4:34p.m. Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to end Closed Session and go to Open Session. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to approve the Closed Session minutes of December 31, 2024. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Abstain: Ramirez-Alonso Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to disqualify applicant, candidate 1G, from further consideration of employment with the Fire Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None 1|Page At the conclusion of the interview for Firefighter, the Board determined the individuals to have met the criteria and continue the candidate in the process. Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 2C in the process for Firefighter, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 4.3 Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 4F in the process for Firefighter, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 4.3 Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 6W in the process for Firefighter, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 4.3 Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Ramirez-Alonso Nayes: None There being no further business to discuss, Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso made a motion to adjourn Open Session at 4:36p.m. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.
