MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION OF THE
VILLAGE OF ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HELD IN THE HR CONFERENCE ROOM ON
APRIL 15, 2025
Commissioner Dean Walsh called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting
is to review and approve past meeting minutes, interview both Police Officer and Firefighter
candidates as part of the background process, discuss eligibility of specific Police Officer and
Firefighter candidates, and discussion of an extended leave of absence request.

Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of February
26, 2025.
Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.
Motion approved.

At 3:02p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to go into Closed Session per 5ILCS120/2(c) (1):
appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific
employees or legal counsel.
Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.
Motion approved.

Deputy Police Chief Greg Czernecki left closed session at 4:15pm.
Fire Division Chief joined closed session at 4:15pm.
Chairperson Dean Walsh left closed session at 5:00pm.
At 5:09p.m. Commissioner Luis Ramirez-Alonso moved to end Closed Session and go to Open
Session.
Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo.

At the conclusion of the interviews for Police Officer, the Board determined the individuals to
have met the criteria and continue the candidate in the process.
Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 39 in the process for
Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police
Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams.
Motion was seconded by Luis Ramirez-Alonso.

Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate NS in the process for
Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police
Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams.

Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to approve the recommendation to grant Firefighter/Engineer
Thomas Dobbins an unpaid leave up to/ not to exceed the date of the Fire Pension Board’s
determination of Thomas Dobbins s Duty Disability Pension.
