MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION OF THE
VILLAGE OF ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HELD IN THE HR CONFERENCE ROOM ON
OCTOBER 28, 2025
Commissioner Dean Walsh called the meeting to order at 3:14 p.m. The purpose of this meeting
is to review and approve past meeting minutes, interview both Police Officer candidates as part
of the background process, discuss the eligibility of specific Police Officer and Firefighter
candidates, and discuss a draft revision of the BFPC Rules.

Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of
September 9, 2025.
Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

At 3:15p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to go into Closed Session per 5ILCS120/2(c) (1):
appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific
employees or legal counsel.

At 4:04p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to end Closed Session and go to Open Session.

At the conclusion of the interviews for Police Officer, the Board determined the individuals to
have met the criteria and continued the candidate in the process.
Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate DS in the process for
Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police
Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams.
Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.

The Rules of the Arlington Heights Board of Fire and Police Commissioners are reviewed
periodically to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and alignment with current best
practices and procedures. The Rules were last reviewed and updated in June 2025. The proposed
rule changes reflect the transfer of appointment authority from the Board of Fire and Police
Commission to the Village Manager. This change will take effect on January 1, 2026, or until the
current list is exhausted or expires. This change will not affect the current Police Sgt eligibility
list.
Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to recommend to the Village Board adoption of the revised
rules as presented.

There being no further business to discuss, Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to adjourn
