City Hall - 2nd Floor Council City of Aurora Chambers 44 East Downer Place Aurora, IL City Council Meeting Minutes - Final Tuesday November 05, 2013 6:00 PM Special City Council Meeting ROLL CALL The Special City Council meeting was called to order at 6:22 by Mayor Weisner, and the Roll was called. Present: 12 - Mayor Tom Weisner, Alderman Juany Garza, Alderman Ted Mesiacos, Alderman Bill Donnell, Alderman John Peters, Alderman Mike Saville, Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns, Alderman Rick Mervine, Alderman Edward Bugg, Alderman Lynne Johnson, Alderman Richard Irvin and Alderman Bob O'Connor NEW BUSINESS Alderman Irvin moved, seconded by Alderman Mervine, to suspend the rules to consider items under New Business. Motion carried unanimously. 13-00816 A Resolution supporting the retrofit of existing DOT-111 Rail Tank Cars that transport Packing Groups I and II Hazmat before the Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration Docket No. PHMSA-2012-0082 (HM-251). There was a presentation in the form of a newscast play regarding DOT- 111 Rail Tank Cars and rail safety. After the newscast, Mayor Weisner explained that our resolution would be forwarded to the appropriate federal agencies, asking them to push regulations for safety retrofitting of tanker cars. Mayor Weisner asked the members of the Council to join other councils throughout the U.S. and Canada in their efforts. A motion was made by Alderman Saville, seconded by Alderman Hart-Burns, that this resolution be approved. The motion carried. Aye: 11 - Alderman Garza, Alderman Mesiacos, Alderman Donnell, Alderman Peters, Alderman Saville, Alderman Hart-Burns, Alderman Mervine, Alderman Bugg, Alderman Johnson, Alderman Irvin and Alderman O'Connor Enactment No: R13-305 City of Aurora Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes - Final November 5, 2013 13-00807 A resolution appointing Kristina Bohman as Alderman of the 1st Ward for the City of Aurora. Alderman Hart-Burns moved, seconded by Alderman Mervine, to allow the following speakers to address the City Council. Motion carried by voice vote. Judy Runge, of Lily St. in Aurora, and former Alderman Abby Schuler, spoke in support of Tina Bohman's appointment. Both speakers testified about Tina Bohman's active and ongoing work with neighborhood groups and the community. Newly appointed Alderman Bohman thanked everyone for their support . Several Aldermen welcomed Tina Bohman to the Council, recognized Bohman's commitment to the community, and commended Mayor Weisner for his choice. Mayor Weisner noted that a lot of great candidates had come forward , which made this a difficult decision, and stated he is looking forward to working with Alderman Bohman. A motion was made by Alderman Hart-Burns, seconded by Alderman Mervine, that this resolution be approved. The motion carried. Following unanimous vote, Bohman was sworn in as Alderman of Aurora's 1st Ward.
