Public forum: The public that was present stated that they were at the meeting to be a part of the process and to learn about the upcoming changes. 4. Update on results and implications of building assessment: Jane Knodell, Dave Hartnett, and Cindi Wight met with Mayor Miro Weinberger. The Mayor is supportive and looks forward to watching the seamless process unfold. However he wants the Committee to limit the financial impact on the City.. Dave Hartnett assured the Mayor that an Aging Commission, or something of the like, will be formed throughout to make sure that senior programs, needs, and community trends are recognized by the City. The Committee has been tasked to give the Mayor and Board of Finance an update in May. Cindi Wight updated the Committee on the building assessment progress. She stated that an assessment will cost $3,600.00. The City recommended the EMG Company to do the assessment when it is time to find out if there are any underlying conditions. Cindi suggested the cost for the assessment would be covered by Heineberg as the ownership of the facility would be retained in the immediate future by Heineberg. Gail Moreau assured the Committee that the building is currently in good standards and therefore an assessment is not needed in the immediate future. 5. Recommendations to City on “two campus model”: Beth Hammond explained the two campus model that will be managed by the City of Burlington as a “one identity, new senior solution” that will decrease redundancy, yet be more organized. Kirby Dunn stated that the Champlain Senior Center has created more energy, programming, and attracted more participants since the City started to manage it in 2016. Dave Hartnett stressed the need for volunteers throughout the process to keep the Centers vibrant. The members of the public stated that they like the idea of this path, but are interested in the future of the senior centers during this process. Kelly Stoddard Poor stated that the Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront is really good at reflecting community programming needs and anticipates the same throughout the process. Cindi Wight stated that if we continue with this plan, there will be a $20,000.00 gap in the current budget. Jane Knodell suggested creating a sub-committee to develop a budget proposal for the Committee to consider at its April meeting. Gail Moreau, Beth Hammond, Cindi Wight, Gary Rogers, and Melissa Cate will be meeting and coming back to the Committee with a recommendation.
