FOUNDERS PARK COMMITTEE
Minutes from the August 15, 2018 meeting.
In attendance:
John Williams, Kevin Clark, Bruce Ashby, Ed Van Awken, Gary Martin, Councilperson Grant
A 2nd public viewing of the park plans was held from 4:30 pm to 6pm in the Civic Center.
Members of the public that viewed and commented:
Travis Taylor, Jerrold Hennrich, Rosie Dorsey, Kelley Wilson
The committee meeting Started immediately following the public viewing.
3 plans were held as examples of the elements the committee members liked.
Plan #19 by Andrew Foy:
The “Water Feature” using the existing drainage ditch along Lincoln Drive on the east side of the park.
Several bridges across the ditch provide access to the park from Lincoln drive as well as a place to reflect
and hear running water which is invocative of nature. The other element in this plan was a connective
walk along the west side of the water feature running north to south that connected Mill and college
streets sidewalks.
Plan #28 by D. Tegtman:
Base design for locations of elements and overall concept utilizing a pavilion and waiting area nestled in
the southwest corner of the park nearer the city and park parking lots.
Plan #32 by Courtney Kayman:
Held as an example of the possible kiosk design.
Priorities identified for the next meeting were to find prices for etched bricks to be used as a funding
tool. Obtain any records possible regarding the construction and base layers under the existing asphalt
tennis courts from the Architects of Record (believed to be White & Borgognoni). Find or reproduced a
scaled model of the elevations that can overlay the 2’x3’ plan drawings for development purposes.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 10th at the old freight room in the historic depot.
