MINUTES Preservation Commission Monday, February 24th, 2025 City Hall/Civic Center– 5:30 p.m. 1. Roll Call: Mr. Mueller called the meeting to order. a. Members Present: Rhodes, Norris-Price, Ashby, Brown, Bittle, Zurlinden, Grant, Young, Rye-Sanders (ex-officio) b. Members Absent: Falcone c. Staff Present: Mueller d. Guests: None 2. Approval of Minutes: Ms. Brown made a motion to approve the minutes from the January 13th, 2025 meeting, seconded by Mr. Zurlinden. The minutes were approved by unanimous voice vote. 3. Communication and Reports: a. Educational and Technical Assistance Committee a. Report from the Educational and Technical Assistance Committee – Ms. Brown gave a report from the recent meetings of the Educational and Technical Assistance Committee. b. The Commission discussed having a community event July 4th, commemorating the founding of Carbondale. The Commission agreed that a sub-committee was necessary to allow non-Commission members to be involved in preparing for the event. Mr. Young made motion to create a July 4th Community Event subcommittee, seconded by Mr. Zurlinden. The motion was approved by unanimous voice vote. b. Nomination and Hardship Committee a. Report on the Findings of the Proposed Northwest Historic District – Mr. Zurlinden provided a report on the recent meeting of the Nomination and Hardship Committee. c. Work Plan Committee a. No Report d. Certificate of Appropriateness Committee a. No report e. Preservation Month Subcommittee a. No Report 4. Old Business: a. Discussion of Funding for Carbondale FY-26 – The Commission discussed the proposed funding for the upcoming fiscal year and potential uses of funding. 1 5. New Business: a. Approval of FY-26 Meeting Schedule - Mr. Grant moved to approve the FY-26 meeting schedule, seconded by Ms. Brown. The motion was approved by unanimous voice vote. 6. Comments from the Public, Commission Members, or Staff: Mr. Rhodes discussed the possibility of the Commission creating a list of endangered historic properties. 7. Adjournment: Mr. Grant made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Mr. Zurlinden. The meeting was adjourned with unanimous voice vote. 2
