STRATEGY SESSION
CALL TO ORDER
The City Council of the City of Charlotte, North Carolina convened for a Strategy
Session on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 5:06 p.m. in Room 267 of the Charlotte
Mecklenburg Government Center with Mayor Vi Lyles presiding.
Present: 11 - Mayor Vi Lyles, Mayor Pro Tem Julie Eiselt, Council Member Tariq Scott Bokhari,
Council Member Ed Driggs, Council Member Larken Egleston, Council Member
Justin Harlow, Council Member LaWana Mayfield, Council Member James Mitchell,
Council Member Matt Newton, Council Member Greg Phipps, and Council Member
Braxton Winston II
Absent: 1- Council Member Dimple Ajmera
1. 15-9469 Brief Updates:
- North Carolina Department of Transportation
Community
Outreach
- The UNC Charlotte - Shape CLT
Warren Cooksey, NC Department of Transportation provided a presentation
regarding the North Carolina Turnpike Authority and Electronic Tolling. Taiwo
Jaiyeoba, Planning Director introduced students from UNC Charlotte that
discussed The Millennium Plan.
2. 15-9470 Committee Chair Report Outs
Council Member Mitchell, Chairperson, provided a report for the Economic
Development Committee and Ron Kimble, City Manager's Office provided an
update about the Convention Center Expansion. Council Member Eiselt,
Chairperson, provided a report for the Community Safety Committee. Council
Members Bokahri and Egleston, Co-Chairs, provided a report for the
Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Council Member Phipps, Chairperson,
provided a report for the Transportation and Planning Committee and Liz
Babson, Transportation Director provided a policy update regarding Charlotte
Neighborhood Traffic Calming. Council Member Egleston, Vice-Chairperson,
provided a report for the Environment Committee. Council Member Mayfield,
Chairperson, provided a report for the Housing and Neighborhood Development
Committee.
3. 15-9471 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Assessment
This agenda item will be presented at a future meeting.
4. 15-9505 Preliminary Focus Area Outlook
Phil Rieger, Strategy and Budget Director provided a presentation regarding
Focus Area Plans and establishing strategic priorities.

ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Council Member Mayfield and seconded by Council
Member Driggs to Adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
