City of Columbia, Missouri Meeting Minutes Commission on Cultural Affairs Thursday, September 29, 2016 Board Room Executive Committee Walton Buillding 4:15 PM 300 S Providence Rd Columbia MO 65203 I. CALL TO ORDER Committee Member Attendance: Kevin Shults, Aaron Krawitz, Judy Harper, and Caroline Leemis Staff in Attendance: JJ Musgrove and Joyce Gelina Shults called the meeting to order at 4:20 p.m. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approved by Harper, seconded by Leemis. III. NEW BUSINESS Review of October Commission Meeting Draft Agenda A draft of the October commission meeting agenda was distributed and discussed; no changes were made. Applications are due by October 7 for current openings on the commission. After the nominating committee report is given, which is not complete at this time, vote will be taken for FY17 officers. Updates on the following agenda items were given by Musgrove: $6500 was raised, after expenses, at the 2016 Celebration of the Arts event and several interesting ideas were introduced during the committee’s wrap-up meeting; a volunteer to represent the Commission on the One Read panel is needed; and work on the Diversity Celebration has begun, with special guests J’den and Cathy Cox, and speaker Nontombi Naomi Tutu. IV. GENERAL COMMENTS BY PUBLIC, MEMBERS AND STAFF General comments were made on ways to improve the current method of reviewing and scoring funding applications. Musgrove plans to meet soon with those volunteering to review the annual process. Meeting attendance was also discussed. V. ADJOURNMENT A motion to adjourn was made by Harper and seconded by Leemis at 5:07 p.m. Members of the public may attend any open meeting.
