CALL TO ORDER Kim Trabue, Board Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00noon. II. ROLL CALL This was Filed Present: 10 - Joan Beard, Susan Bell, Michael Kelly, Donald Laird, John LaRocca, Bob McDonald, Thomas Schultz, David Thomas, Kimberly Trabue and Teri Weise Excused: 2- Scott Cristal and Leela Jashnani III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES April 25 Board Minutes Minutes were approved as written. IV. NEW BUSINESS Update on Boone County Fairgrounds - Janet Thompson, Boone County Commissioner Boone County Commissioner Janet Thompson updated the Board on the 129 acre Boone County Fairgrounds property, or Central MO Events Center. The commission issued an RFP on use of the property and have received three proposals. A decision will be made later this summer. Ms. Thompson said she would like to see the property become a Park (name TBD) with an emphasis on tourism related activities (sporting events, festivals) with funding by a joint effort of the city, county, University and private individuals & businesses. REPORTS City of Columbia, Missouri Page 1 Printed on 8/2/2016 Convention and Visitors Advisory Meeting Minutes May 23, 2016 Board CVB Updates - May The CVB is currently advertising for a new sports sales manager. The position will be advertised state-wide for 30 days. There was discussion on the recent ordinance passed by the City Council calling for a special election as to whether to increase the gross receipts license tax on hotels and motels. Funds raised through this 1% increase are designated for the construction of a new airport terminal and related improvements. There was also discussion regarding the passage of Resolution 58-16 regarding Use of Tourism Development Funds related to competitive bid fees and sponsorship support of youth and amateur sporting events and large meetings and conventions. Strawn Park Disc Golf Course will be dedicated on June 23. Invitations will be sent out by Parks & Recreation soon. CVB Staff Report - May VI. NEXT MEETING DATE June 27, 2016 VII.
