V. ELECTION OF OFFICERS (CHAIR, VICE-CHAIR, SECRETARY)
Before the election of officers, Miller briefly described the functions of the Chair,
Vice Chair and Secretary. Higginbotham serves as treasurer to the Council, the
other three positions would need to be elected.
Burks commented that it would be desirable to have a Chair with some
experience serve in that role. Bross and Cason, who have both been on the
Council for a while, said they would prefer not to serve as Chair.
Kloeppel asked about the possibility of creating co-chairs. However, that would
likely require a change in Council bylaws.
Burks commented that he remembered Chris Drury expressing an interest and
willingness to lead.
Burks made a motion, seconded by Bross, that Drury be appointed Chair.
Motion passed 10-0.
Burks added that he would be willing to assist Drury and would serve in position
of Vice Chair.
Kloeppel made a motion, seconded by Cason, that Burks be appointed Vice
Chair. Motion passed 10-0.
Nall offered to serve in the position of Secretary, saying that she had experience
in taking meeting minutes.
Cason made a motion, seconded by Bross, that Nall be appointed Secretary.
Motion passed 10-0.
Burks commented that it would be nice to create a working subcommittee to
present plans and ideas to the full Council. Ortiz, Shaffer, Cason and Bross
volunteered to serve on the subcommittee, along with Drury and Burks. Burks
said he would contact the group to meet before the next scheduled Council
meeting on August 2.
VI. BUDGET REPORT
Higginbotham said that the council currently has about $4,000 available. He
reminded the Council that all purchases must be made through him to meet
City requirements. The Council is not authorized to make direct purchases.
