Presenation: by Laura Estabrooks, Career Center - Regarding the project her GIS students are working
on & the way it will benefit PTAC
Richard Perkins introduced Laura Estabrooks from the Career Center. Ms.
Estabrooks is a GIS teacher and showed some of the work her students have
produced in their classes. Drew Brooks expressed that he would be willing to share
data collected from Transit and the Consultants with the students for their own
learning benefits. Christiane Quinn and Kathy Lee expressed that they felt having the
local students work on this would involve the community in bettering the system as
well as getting a younger perspective in the equation. Laura Estabrooks mentioned the
difficulties in getting the students to the Career Center currently. Perhaps the
information Najeh obtained in her research project could be useful to the GIS
students. CPS Superintendent Stiepelman is extremely interested in having more
students ride public transit and especially with the cost of getting the students to the
Career Center would be very interested in CPS working with COMO Connect to
help both bottom lines.
