CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA CORAL SPRINGS CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY Wednesday, February 5, 2025 Commission Chambers, City Hall 8:30 AM 9500 West Sample Road Coral Springs, FL 33065 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Simmons at 8:30 a.m. Roll Call Chair Nancy Metayer Bowen (Attended via Zoom) Vice Chair Joshua Simmons Board Member Scott Brook (Attended via Zoom) Board Member Shawn Cerra Board Member Joseph McHugh Also in attendance: City Manager Catherine Givens Deputy City Attorney Andrew Dunkiel Education Officer April Wyche City Clerk Georgia Elliott Moment of Silence Pledge of Allegiance Public Comment: None. Consent Motion: To approve Consent items 1 and 2. Result: Passed (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member Cerra Seconder: Board Member McHugh 1. Minutes Approval (Georgia Elliott) Request to approve the meeting summaries of December 4, 2024 Regular Meeting and December 18, 2024 Special Meeting. (REQUEST TO APPROVE) 2. 2025-2026 School Year Calendar (Rita Weaver) Request to approve the 2025-2026 school year calendar. The proposed school year calendar is the same as Broward County Public Schools. (REQUEST TO APPROVE) Policy Formation and Direction: None. Principal Communications Principal Jodi Robins provided a school update, reviewing assessments and proficiency levels for students in math, science, and social studies and highlighting sports and upcoming events. Rita Weaver also provided input. Discussion ensued. 3. Government Academy Update (Rita Weaver) Request to accept the Government Academy update. (REQUEST TO ACCEPT) Rita Weaver provided a Government Academy update, discussing college and career readiness and public service opportunities for students. Discussion ensued. Motion: To accept the Government Academy update. Result: Passed (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member McHugh Seconder: Board Member Cerra Board Communications Principal Robins addressed questions of the Board, noting that the Coral Springs Charter School application window had closed on January 30 and enrollment is still in progress. Sibling preference for existing students was discussed. Ms. Robins also highlighted Black History Month activities and announced that graduation will be held May 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Florida Atlantic University.
