CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA CORAL SPRINGS CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY Wednesday, March 5, 2025 Commission Chambers, City Hall 6:00 PM 9500 West Sample Road Coral Springs, FL 33065 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Bowen at 6:02 p.m. Roll Call Chair Nancy Metayer Bowen Vice Chair Joshua Simmons Board Member Scott Brook Board Member Shawn Cerra Board Member Joseph McHugh Also in attendance: City Manager Catherine Givens City Attorney John Hearn City Clerk Georgia Elliott Moment of Silence Pledge of Allegiance Public Comment • Rene Silva discussed the rezoning of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. • Nicole Morst discussed the rezoning of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. • Mario Marcano discussed the rezoning of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Consent Motion: To approve Consent item 1. Result: Passed 5 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member Brook Seconder: Board Member Cerra 1. Minutes Approval (Georgia Elliott) Request to approve the meeting summary of February 5, 2025 Regular Meeting. (REQUEST TO APPROVE) Policy Formation and Direction 2. FY2025 Q2 Financials (Lechyana Knight) Request to accept the second quarter financials for the Coral Springs Charter School. (REQUEST TO ACCEPT) Nicole Jordan-Coombs presented the second quarter financials for the Coral Springs Charter School. A copy of her presentation was made a part of the record. Ms. Jordan-Coombs fielded questions from the board. Motion: To accept the second quarter financials. Result: Passed 5 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member Brook Seconder: Board Member Cerra Principal Communications 3. Government Academy Update (Rita Weaver) Rita Weaver provided a Government Academy update, discussing a speaker series, Commissioner and Mayor shadowing, the ACE program, ethics participation, a roundtable for career opportunities, and field trip opportunities. Discussion ensued. Principal Jodi Robins addressed a false alarm at the school, noting that she was proud of the staff and student response. An update was provided on testing, sports, the school musical, and upcoming school events. Board Communications City Manager Givens thanked the city’s response teams for their assistance with the March 4 false alarm incident at the school. Police Chief Brad Mock thanked staff and students for their response and stated that after reviewing the footage, there is no video evidence of a manual press of the alarm button. He stated that the alarm company will continue testing on the system with the police alongside them to figure out what went wrong.
