CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA CORAL SPRINGS CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY Wednesday, May 6, 2026 Commission Chambers, City Hall 5:30 PM 9500 West Sample Road Coral Springs, Florida 33065 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 5:33 p.m. by Vice Chair Joshua Simmons. City Attorney Hearn requested that a motion be made to appoint a new Chair and Vice Chair to the Coral Springs Charter School Board of Directors. Motion: To appoint Vice Chair Joshua Simmons as Chair and Board Member Brook as Vice Chair of the Coral Springs Charter School Board of Directors. Result: Passed 4 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member Brook Seconder: Board Member Cerra Consent Motion: To approve consent items 1 through 3. Result: Passed 4 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Vice Chair Brook Seconder: Board Member Cerra 1. Minutes Approval (Georgia Elliott) Request to approve the meeting summary of April 1, 2026 Regular Meeting. (REQUEST TO APPROVE) 2. Mental Health Assistance Allocation Plan (Rita Weaver) Request to opt out of the Broward County School district plan and approve the Mental Health Assistance Allocation Plan for Coral Springs Charter School. Coral Springs Charter School is committed to increasing access to mental health support for its students. The Mental Health Assistance Allocation Plan defines strategies to assess students’ needs and deliver appropriate services. (REQUEST TO APPROVE) 3. Safe School Officer Documentation (Rita Weaver) Request to ratify School Year 2025-2026 Charter School Safety and Security Requirements Assurance Form subject to the approval of Resolution 2026-012 at the Regular City Commission meeting on May 6, 2026. The Charter School Safety and Security Requirements Assurance Form verifies the school is in compliance with Section 1006.12, Florida Statutes for the School Year 2025-2026. (REQUEST TO RATIFY) Policy Formation and Direction 4. Recognition, Jennie Boyer, 2026 Florida State Assistant Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), Coral Springs Charter School (Dawn Musil) The City Commission recognized Mrs. Jennie Boyer for being named the 2026 Florida State Assistant Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) for Coral Springs Charter School in the City of Coral Springs. (REQUEST TO RECOGNIZE) Principal Communications 5. Principal's Report (Jodi Robins) • Reported that end-of-year testing has commenced, with a 3 percent increase over last year for 9th and 10th grade, with the highest scores to date. • Noted an 86 percent proficiency rating, a 16 percent increase from last year. • Advised of a sewer line plumbing issue reported to the Director of Public Works, Chad Maraj. • Informed the Board that a chartered school bus struck the school’s exterior fence, resulting in an opening on April 24, 2026. • Stated that the District’s Annual Performance Report response is in progress and a packet will be provided to the Board by the June meeting. • Provided the Charter School Panther Pride handout to the Board highlighting recent academic and athletic achievements. • Highlighted the DECA International Conference, where the Charter School earned a 2nd-place finish. • Announced that four students earned two years of college tuition at the Science National Honor Society (SNHS) STEM Challenge. • Noted that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week. • Mentioned that Senior Prom was held on May 1, the 8th Grade Dance will be held on May 8, and Senior Class Graduation will take place on May 28. • Informed the board that the State of Florida and the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) now require EKG screenings for 9th-grade and new student athletes; screenings will be conducted on June 2, by a Charter School alumnus with the Who We Play For, non-profit organization. Consent forms will be provided to the parents of 8th-grade athletes and prospects, additional testing will include grades 9– 11, and the Charter School may serve as a host site for all schools in the City of Coral Springs in the future. Board Communications • Expressed appreciation to Principal Robins and the faculty for their contributions to a successful school year to date. • Requested that congratulatory letters be issued to students who earned two years of college tuition through the Science National Honor Society (SNHS) STEM Challenge. • Requested that a letter of appreciation be presented to the alumnus providing EKG screenings for Charter School students. City Manager Communications • Announced that, following consultation with City Attorney Hearn, the next Charter School Board of Directors Meeting is rescheduled from June 3 to June 17, 2026 (time to be confirmed), and requested that a Charter School representative attend the meeting via Zoom.
