CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA CORAL SPRINGS CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING SUMMARY Wednesday, April 2, 2025 Commission Chambers, City Hall 5:30 PM 9500 West Sample Road Coral Springs, FL 33065 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Bowen at 5:33 p.m. Roll Call Chair Nancy Metayer Bowen Vice Chair Joshua Simmons Board Member Scott Brook (Not present) Board Member Shawn Cerra Board Member Joseph McHugh Also in attendance: City Manager Catherine Givens City Attorney John Hearn City Clerk Georgia Elliott Moment of Silence Pledge of Allegiance Public Comment: None. Consent Motion: To approve Consent items 1 and 2. Result: Passed 4 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Vice Chair Simmons Seconder: Board Member Cerra 1. Minutes Approval (Georgia Elliott) Request to approve the meeting summary of March 5, 2025 Regular Meeting. (REQUEST TO APPROVE) 2. FY25 Audit Engagement Letter (Rita Weaver) Request to ratify the engagement letter for Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP as the Independent Auditor for the Coral Springs Charter School for the year ending June 30, 2025. A certified public accounting firm conducts an audit of the Coral Springs Charter School’s financial statements each year. (REQUEST TO RATIFY) Policy Formation and Direction 3. Fiscal Year 2024 Single Audit Representation Letter (Rita Weaver) Request to ratify the Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP single audit representation letter as an independent auditor for the Coral Springs Charter School for the year ending June 30, 2024. (REQUEST TO RATIFY) Patrick Dunne of Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP presented the item. Motion: To ratify the single audit representation letter. Result: Passed 4 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member Cerra Seconder: Board Member McHugh 4. Fiscal Year 2024 Single Audit Review (Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP) Request to accept the Independent Auditor's Report by Citrin Cooperman & Company, LLP, for the Coral Springs Charter School. A certified public accounting firm completed an audit of the Coral Springs Charter School's financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2024. A copy of the single audited financial statements is included. (REQUEST TO ACCEPT) Rita Weaver explained the item. Motion: To accept the Independent Auditor’s Report. Result: Passed 4 – 0 (Unanimously) Mover: Board Member Cerra Seconder: Vice Chair Simmons Principal Communications Principal Jodi Robins stated that the new fence will be finished on Friday, new fire routes will be practiced, a new security monitor has been hired, and a new golf cart will be purchased for approximately $9,000. She discussed the following topics: the installation of vape detectors, testing, field trips, and sports. An update was provided on the Greece trip. “Commissioner for the Day” Khalil Al-Buhaisi introduced himself. Principal Robins fielded questions from the Board. She explained how the vape detectors work, and City Manager Givens noted that the detectors had been purchased with grant funds. Board Communications Board Member Cerra expressed concerns relating to the school’s discipline matrix and Principal Robins fielded questions. There was a request to review how the Board can assist the school.
