Document Approval:
The minutes of the April 28, 2015 meeting were unanimously approved.
Business:
1. Review observations made at the cemetery grounds
Chairman Grossman reviewed items with the commission that were discussed during
the grounds inspection just prior to the meeting. Mr. Meintzer will fill in between the
pavers at the Memorial Pole with polymeric sand as well as level out and rearrange a
few of the pavers around the edge. Ms. Spagnoli will check with Moore Landscapes
regarding a purple flowered plant that is missing just south of the pole. There is an
issue along the west fence line with sod that was put down and is now dead assumably
from not being watered. Ms. Spagnoli will find out whose responsibility it is to maintain
the newly planted grass. Both Mr. Zobus and Mr. Meintzer think putting down seed

would be better than sod. One of the crabapple trees to the north looks as though it
might be diseased. Ms. Spagnoli will have someone take a look at it to see if it can be
treated and saved.
2. Review proposal from Sure-Set Monument Service
A check was received from Moore Landscapes to reimburse for damage to three
monuments by their workers. Sure-Set Monument Service did the repairs on them and
Ms. Spagnoli will authorize the invoice for payment. Sure-Set Monument Service also
created a proposal for repairs to five additional monuments that need to be caulked and
or leveled. The commission was so pleased with the restoration work, they unanimously
approved to have the additional work done. At least one more inspection of the grounds
will be done prior to the winter season for any items that may need to be addressed.
3. Next meeting date
Ms. Spagnoli will email commission members to confirm either October 13th or 20th for
the next meeting.
Items from the Commission:
The Deerfield Public Library is conducting a historical Cemetery Tour the fourth
weekend in October. Information should be going out in the Library newsletter in the
next couple weeks. They plan to have three groups of 12 over two days with pre-
registration required.
Items from Staff:
Ms. Spagnoli shared that she had been at a cultural event over the weekend and met a
gentleman who does gravestone rubbings. He showed her a fabric used along with a
wax type product that is safe to use on the stones. This could possibly be helpful in
retrieving information from some of the stones in the cemetery that are losing the
engraving due to age and weather.
Adjournment:
There being no further business or discussion the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Debbie Galante
Secretary
