Detective Schroeder and Detective Tokarz reported on police department activities for
January 2016. A bank robbery at TCF at the Deerbrook Jewel took place and the
department is working with the FBI. There was 1 battery, 12 domestic trouble reports, 2
residential burglaries and 1 theft from a vehicle. Identity theft continues to be a
challenge and the officers encouraged caution when making internet purchases and
frequent review of credit scores to make sure the record is accurate and not
compromised.
4. Consideration of Special Needs Adults Socialization Support
The Commission reviewed the final report and recommendation. Following a motion by
Mr. Antokal and a second by Mr. Miller, the report and recommendation was approved
as prepared. It will be presented to the Village Board at one of the meetings in March.
5. Government Service Internships
Ch. Foltz suggested stipends be included for GSI recipients as they are for Community
Service Awards. It was agreed to further consider a Fall time-frame for Community
Service Awards.
6. Items from the Commission
Ms. Ury suggested a needs survey be performed to assist with guiding Commission
activities.
Mr. Antokal noted the blood drive being held March 6th from 8 am to 1 pm.
Early voting for the March 15th primary was being held at the Highland Police Station on
Deerfield Road.
Mr. Antokal raised the possibility of assisting Flint Michigan with their drinking water
issues. Mr. Street will reach out to Flint officials to see if any assistance is desired.
Ms. Zwart noted she has moved from the Village and needs to resign from the
Commission, noting many wonderful accomplishments since the time of service to the
Youth Council. Ch. Foltz noted he was moving to Michigan and also needed to resign
from the Commission. Mr. Street will advise Mayor Rosenthal of these upcoming
