Commissioner Angie Butera suggested having the deadline sooner than July 3 in order to have them on display for a longer period of time. Optimist Sale Co-Chair Reich reported the Optimist Club can help with the Parade and Rotary Race now that they are not selling glow items. Parade Co-Chair Reich reported that Judy Geuder is taking over the parade. She and Mike Delaney have been working together on the transition. Rotary Race Commissioner Gray reported that the race had 220 entrants and help from outside groups was greatly appreciated. He noted that the digital timing has been a great addition. Silent Auction Committee Member Susan Karp reported that the silent auction went very well. She noted there were problems with some people not returning to pick up their items when they won. Arts & Crafts Commissioner Seidman reported there was a good turn out and no problems. Food Co-Chair Reich noted that she did not hear any complaints this year. Wrist Bands Co-Chair Reich reported that sales were good. Police Update Deputy Chief Tom Keane noted that people need to be notified that they cannot watch the fireworks from the sidewalk of the bridge. Co-Chair Reich noted that everybody needs to get tougher on people throwing candy at the parade. She noted that she saw staff from the Village and Fire Protection District throwing candy, which creates a safety problem. She asked that staff set an example for all parade participants. Deputy Chief Keane noted that they can place more officers at the start of the parade route to help prevent candy throwing. He noted that it can also be stressed at staff meetings. Commissioner Angie Butera suggested putting a sign at the start of the parade and reminding each participant the day of the event. Co-Chair Reich noted that there should be more portable toilets around the Patty Turner Center on July 3. Co-Chair Reich noted that the amount of people openly drinking has increased on July 3. She also noted that parents are letting their children use sparklers on July 3, which is dangerous in such a large crowd. She suggested putting information in the Family Days brochure to reduce both. Deputy Chief Keane suggested placing signs at the entrance that advise that no alcohol or sprinklers are allowed. Other Items Commissioner Angie Butera reported that she is looking into moving away from the bounce houses and incorporating more rides, such as a giant slide. She noted that a number of residents reached out to her asking for different options. She also suggested placing the fundraising thermometer sign at the corner park at Deerfield and Waukegan roads. She discussed moving the bike parade next year due to the construction on Deerfield Road. Commissioner Bettiker noted that it is past practice to have the outgoing parade organizer be the parade marshal the following year. He asked that Mike Delaney be the 2016 parade marshal. The Commission discussed the 2016 parade route, as the Deerfield Road construction. Next Meeting Co-Chair Reich noted the next meeting would be held on October 5 at 4 p.m. Adjournment Commissioner Bettiker motioned to adjourn. Commissioner Gray seconded the motion.
