2016 Parade Route
Co-Chair Reich noted that the parade route will need to change for 2016 due to the Deerfield
Road Reconstruction Project. Staff prepared a map showing the regular parade route and two
parade route options. Option 1 starts at Deerfield High School, travels south on Waukegan Road
to Deerfield Road, heads west on Deerfield Road and then goes north on Park Avenue, where it
ends. This option allows for the parade to pass Village Hall. Option 2 starts at Deerfield High
School, travels south on Waukegan Road to Hazel Avenue, heads west on Hazel and then goes
south on Park Avenue, where it ends.
Deputy Director of Public Works Phillips reported that the portion of Deerfield Road between
Waukegan Road and the Metra underpass may be closed to all traffic due to construction during
July. Because of this, he advised against going with Option 1.
Commissioner Geuder noted that buses for parade performers will need to park around Park
Avenue, so police and Public Works should be sure to block off an area for them. Deputy Chief
Keane noted that the buses can take Jewett Park Drive to Waukegan to leave the area.
Commissioner Geuder noted that it is very important to communicate the parade route change
well in advance of next summer.
Deputy Chief Keane discussed communicating to parade participants to access DHS via Half
Day Road and to coordinate the road closure with Bannockburn.
Commissioners discussed staging for the parade. Commissioner Geuder will use traffic cones
with sticks to mark out the parade lineup.
Co-Chair Reich noted that it is important to notify both neighbors along the old parade route and
neighbors along the new route of the change to give them time to plan.
Commissioner Geuder made a motion to accept Option 2 as the 2016 parade route.
Commissioner Gray seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.
E-Mails from the Village
Co-Chair Reich reported that Family Days is going to get Village-issued e-mail addressed. The
e-mail addresses will be for the parade, amusements, arts and crafts and one for general Family
Days use. Analyst Fitzgerald noted that these e-mail addresses would be subject to the Freedom
of Information Act and should be used only for Family Days-related activities.
Next Meeting
Co-Chair Reich noted the next meeting would be held on April 11, 2016. Other meeting dates
were set for May 2, 2016, and June 6, 2016.
Adjournment
Commissioner Bettiker motioned to adjourn. Commissioner Gray seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 5:13 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
