MINUTES FAMILY DAYS COMMITTEE June 6, 2016 The Family Days Committee met in the Community Conference Room of the Village Hall at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016. In attendance were: Present: Barb Reich, Co-Chair John Coughenour, Co-Chair Phil Bettiker Angie Butera Judy Geuder Barry Gray Ed Seidman Committee Members Present: Janet Youngberg, Flower Show Marilyn Knilans, Arts & Crafts Janice Becker, Rotary Race Susan Karp, Silent Auction Esther Finne, Poster Contest Herb Isaacs, Dog Show Also Present: David Fitzgerald, Management Analyst Greg Hury, Police Bob Phillips, Public Works Dan Busscher, Public Works Brian McCarthy, Fire Department Minutes Commissioner Bettiker made a motion to approve the April 20, 2015, minutes and Commissioner Seidman seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Public Comment There were no comments from the public. Bike Parade Commissioner Angie Butera reported that it will be in the usual location, but take a different route behind Shoppers Court to get to Jewett Park. Co-Chair Reich noted that she had purchased water. Dog Show Committee Member Herb Isaacs reported he expects 50 to 60 dogs this year and has more prizes than ever due to the addition of Pet People as a sponsor. The Barking Lot is also sponsoring the event. He requested seating for spectators and a p.a. system. Flower Show Committee Member Youngberg reported that she has signs and volunteers for the event and is hoping for a large turnout. The vases have been located and she has ordered ribbons. Analyst Fitzgerald will put up a slide about the Flower Show on Channel 10. Poster Contest Committee Member Finne reported that she is all set with cash and pizza prizes. Optimist Sale Co-Chair Reich reported that an outside vendor will again sell glow items this year. The Optimist Club will sell some items provided by the vendor at tables and collect donations. Parade Commissioner Geuder reported that she is all set and has volunteers. She noted she would need about between 70 and 100 cones, 15 barricades and caution tape. She noted that 4 portable toilets would be needed. She noted the announcer will be set up at the Northshore Chinese Christian Church and would need the sound system and stage set up there. She reported that a letter was sent to officials reminding them to avoid gaps and to not throw any candy. She will station volunteers along the parade route to keep the entrants moving. The Commission also discussed safety issues regarding throwing candy. Rotary Race Commissioner Gray reported this is the race’s 50th year. There is no price change from last year and they will again have on-line registration. He noted they have the sponsor logos. The medals have been ordered. Boy Scouts will again help with the event and EMS will be at the finish line. He will meet with Jay Zahn on July 1 to mark the route. The will use digital timing again and received donations from Sunset Foods. Silent Auction Committee Member Karp reported the silent auction will run from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. at the pavilion. Participants will have two days to pick up their items at Village Hall if they fail to pay and pick them up on July 3. She will place signs at the park and will have signs noting that the pavilion is reserved for the silent auction. She asked for a slide on Channel 10 and would like to list the donors on the website. Commissioner Geuder will bring her iPad to take credit card payments. Arts & Crafts Committee Member Knilans reported that she has 21 vendors so far. Entertainment/Stage Commissioner Angie Butera reported on the new rides for this year. She reiterated that everybody needs to have a wristband to ride, even adults and child caretakers. She noted that 102.3 FM may attend. She will touch base with them regarding arrival and location. Co-Chair Coughenour reported he has selected someone to sing the national anthem. Mayor Rosenthal will speak at the event. Food Vendors Co-Chair Coughenour reported that that contracts for Tiki Hut, Tropical Chill, Cookers, Fore Restaurant, Mario’s Cart and Fresh Thyme are in. Sponsorship/Brochure Co-Chair Reich stated the brochure is done and she has about 40 sponsors this year. She has raised $18,100. Police Report Sergeant Hury reported that they will hold an emergency operations meeting at 7 p.m. at the Patty Turner Center. Deputy Chief Keane was unable to attend, but he is working with Bannockburn on road closures and parade detours. Police will need 16 food and parking passes for Explorers volunteers. Fire Report Fire Commissioner McCarthy reported that the Fire Department has a new big tent that it will put up on July 3. He noted that lost children can be taken to the tent, as it is very visible. He will work with Mad Bomber and share information about the parade route to other agencies. Park District Report Jay Zahn reported that he is all set. He asked that everyone let him know what they will need for their events. Co-Chair Reich noted that she would like to have a golf cart on July 4. There will be a July 1 site meeting. Commission Comments Co-Chair Reich reported the appreciation dinner will be held on August 3 at 6 p.m. at Italian Kitchen. She noted the next meetings will be held will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at 4 p.m., and Monday, October 3, 2016, at 4 p.m. Adjournment Commissioner Geuder motioned to adjourn.
