motion was seconded by Commissioner Fiedler. The motion was approved unanimously.
3. Public Comment
No one was present for public comment.
4. 2015 Festival of Fine Arts Updates
Debbie Netter reported that she had 110 artists registered for the Festival of Fine Arts. She noted
that she is hiring security and had music and food vendors registered. She has the Taco Factory
providing burgers, salads, chicken sandwiches and Mexican food. She also has kettle corn and
Maui Wowi. She has one open time to fill for music. Analyst Fitzgerald noted he would send her
information for the Deerfield Community Band and Big Band Sound of Deerfield. Ms. Netter
noted that she would have new banners made and would deliver post cards and posters.
Commissioner Golding presented a proposed menu for the Preview Party that focused on
appetizer-style food as opposed to the wraps and salads provided in past years. The cost is
roughly the same for the appetizer option as the previous year’s food. Chairman Marks noted
that the appetizers would help make the food feel less like a meal. Commissioner Fiedler stated
she likes the new menu, but would like to have more vegetarian options. Director Julison and
Library Representative Hoffman both liked the updated menu options. Commissioner Shapiro

noted that she liked the menu, but would also like to see a fruit tray included. It was the
consensus of the Commission to move forward with the appetizer menu.
Chairman Marks outlined the voting rules for selecting a purchase prize and asked the
Commissioners if they should be updated due to the lack of reaching a consensus for the past
few years. Library Representative Hoffman suggested picked a medium. Commissioner Seidman
noted that focusing on one medium could mean that a great artist outside of that medium is
overlooked. Commissioner Fiedler suggested a hybrid, where the Commission picks one
medium to focus on, but also has a category for best outside of that medium. The consensus of
the Commission was to focus on mixed media pieces and vote for one best over-all. Chairman
Marks reminded commissioners to vote on Saturday.
5. Public Art Program
Mr. Fitzgerald noted that he has received some applications come in for the second year of the
public art program.
6. Corner Sculpture Park Update
Mr. Fitzgerald reported that the work on Deerfield Road this summer and next summer will use
this area for staging. Also, the traffic lights will be replaced in this location. Public Works is
opposed to moving forward with improvements to the corner park until after the roadwork and
traffic signal work is completed.
7. Public Art in Large-Scale Village Center Developments
Mr. Fitzgerald reported that the Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on June 25
regarding the proposal for public art in new large-scale developments in the Village Center.
Commissioner Golding and Chairman Marks will present the proposal to the Plan Commission
with Mr. Fitzgerald.
8. Public Murals
Mr. Fitzgerald reported that he reached out to officials in Naperville regarding their murals. He
noted that they are done by a non-profit organization. The director noted that some of their
murals were destroyed by building renovations. That has caused them to start mounting their
murals on buildings instead of directly applying them. Their most recent mural cost more than
$10,000. Mr. Fitzgerald noted that he has been in further contact with AT&T. Chairman Marks
stated that cost is an issue, but using students instead of hiring a professional artist would help
keep the cost down. Chairman Marks noted that Commissioners Shapiro and Weisskopf can
work with the school to get involvement.
9. Park District Update
Director Julison reported that the Patty Turner Center is featuring an event for 300 artists. He
noted that Theater D’s production of Barefoot in the Park was a great success. He stated that
Family Theater has local kids involved with the production of Mary Poppins in August. He
noted that the Park District will be hosting after-school enrichment programs with schools that
have a focus on the performing arts.

the library will start to display dresses made from the pages of romance novels.
