Chairman Owens introduced Airport Advisory Board member Paul Borek, Executive
Director of DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation for his presentation.
Mr. Borek discussed county wide economic development that is currently happening.
Mr. Borek stated that there are many companies beginning to base in DeKalb County
and numerous new prospects.
The DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation is aggressively seeking out
business for DeKalb County. The County has much to offer from a great transportation
system, Northern Illinois University, developable land, high speed fiber and an educated
and diverse employee base.
The Dekalb Airport is always marketed to prospective businesses because of its all-
weather capabilities, long runway and that the airport can handle almost all corporate
aircraft. Mr. Borek discussed the importance of the airport. Corporations want to have
easy accessibility to their business.
The entire Airport Advisory Board thanked Mr. Borek for his presentation.
AIRPORT MANAGERS REPORT - Airport Manager Tom Cleveland discussed the jet
fuel incentive program. The jet fuel sales have increased. Jet fuel pricing websites,
corporate flight departments and air cargo carriers are still being contacted to let them
know about the low priced jet fuel at DeKalb Airport. We have been marketing
our www.flydkb.com website for the daily price updates of our jet fuel. Many of the jet
aircraft coming in to fuel up are owner/operators or a private jet.
A progress report will be giving to the DeKalb City Council in June.
AAB Board member Paul Borek, Executive Director of the DeKalb County Economic
Development Corporation, (DCEDC), and Matt Duffy, Executive Director of the DeKalb
Chamber of Commerce were asked to contact NIU to check with members of the
County Economic Development Committee and ask if a member of that committee
could come and address the Airport Advisory Board (AAB), of the County Strategic
Planning prior to the July AAB meeting which is the start of the Airport Strategic
Planning sessions. A DeKalb County development.
