Agenda BUILDING BOARD OF APPEALS WORK SESSION OF BBA SUBCOMMITTEE OCTOBER 22, 2015 10:00 AM Present: Dan Burrows/SAFEbuilt, Chairman Don Whitmore, Lisa Sharp, Christine Scholl. Approval of Agenda – There were no additions to the agenda. Purpose – Discussion of the ICC 2015 codes currently under consideration for City adoption. Discussion is summarized in the attached report. Meeting adjourned at 11:05. BBA Sub‐committee meeting 10/22/2015 Additional Comments regarding proposed amendments to I‐codes‐ 2015 Residential Code, 2015 Mechanical Code and 2015 Fuel Gas Code and 2015 International Building Code: 2015 IRC: R313.1 through R313.2 Automatic Sprinklers:  Townhouses to be exempt from this requirement as well as single family homes. R322.2.1 through R322.2.2 (Flood Zone Issues):  Committee requests clarification for need for this amendment. R403.3.5 Detached garages or sheds (slab on grade):  Committee does not understand need for this amendment; believe this is covered in other parts of the code and our Uniform Dwelling Ordinance. R1005.1 Listing and clearances for factory‐built chimneys:  We question the need for this amendment. M1203.1 Heating Requirements:  Committee agrees with attached IMC review comments that this amendment requiring heating/supply air in interior bathrooms is not necessary. M1401.3.1 Calculations required:  Committee questions this requirement; believe Energy Code covers the requirements. IMC REVIEW COMMENTS:  See attached comments from Steve Doonan of DeKalb Mechanical.  These items are in the IMC and also repeated in applicable sections of the IRC; we have not cross referenced each of these comments.  In general, committee is in agreement with Mr. Doonan’s comments and has the general belief that the 2015 IMC and 2015 Fuel Gas Code are comprehensive enough as written. Specific language in both codes refers to following manufacturer’s requirements for installation, use and operation. Some things we would like clarification on include: M603.6.1.1 Duct Length and M603.6.2.1 Connector Length:  Committee requests clarification of reasoning for these two requirements. BBA Sub‐committee meeting October 22, 2015 p. 2. 2015 IBC: 1806.2 Presumptive Load Bearing Values:  Committee requests clarification for these changes to the IBC.
