MINUTES DeKalb Human Relations Commission February 3, 2015 CALL TO ORDER: Ellingsworth Webb as Pro Temp Chairman called the February 3, 2015 meeting of the DeKalb Human Relations Commission to order at 6:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: Norden Gilbert (arrived at 6:55 p.m.), Ellingsworth Webb, Larry Apperson, Lisa King, Robert Williams, Joe Gastiger Absent: Cheryl Appleton Also Present: Steve Kapitan, Citizen, Mary Jo Harms, Staff Liaison APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Meeting minutes for December 2, 2014 were not ready for approval. No meeting was held on January 6, 2015. OLD BUSINESS: A. Report from Sub-Committee on HRC Conducting Community Group Meetings Chairman Gilbert, Webb and Gastiger reported on their meeting from February 2, 2015. An example of a tentative letter was distributed. Webb suggested the Commission look at the Raleigh, NC packet as it gives a blueprint to work with and also suggested contacting NIU to receive a list of contacts. A Beloved Community flyer is being developed and conversations have started. The Commission is looking at neutral places to hold meetings. The Commission came up with a contact list to find possible locations. Other issues discussed were transportation resources, the Beloved Community group and how to choose groups for the meetings. King asked the question should we talk about the schools. There is a definite need. Apperson wanted to know what the next step is. Discussion ensued.
