Edwardsville Beautification and Tree Commission Minutes February 27, 2018 Present: Benna Denue, Susan Bautsch, Dennis Pluta, Kim Schoenfeld, David Sirko, Bob Pfeiffer, Zyann Kinney, Larry Lipe. Absent: Wilma Jene Bond, Chris Farrar, Barb Giardina, Becky Standefer Call to Order: Benna Denue chaired and called meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Reports: Minutes from January 30 approved with motion from Larry and seconded by Benna, all in favor. Budget: One invoice from Greenside nursery and one invoice for a single 50/50 tree. Old Business: City Forester position; Davey Resource Group- We received a 90 day proposal from Merideth Perkins and Davey Resource Group. Two tasks were Proposed. Task 1- $10,000. More questions need to be asked before proceeding. Might have to wait until next fiscal year budget 2018-2019. Task 2- $2,500 and can be done before end of this fiscal year. EBTC has $5,000 budgeted for this year. New Fiscal year begins May 1, 2018. Motion by Benna to approve Task 2 up to specifications of $2,500. Larry seconded with all in favor. City Website: We will use website to update public on different commissions. We will explain what we are doing with flower pots and why for the website. EBTC meeting dates will be on the site. Green Thumb information will be posted on the website. Welcome Signs lighting and landscaping: We are looking for reasonable costs for lighting options for Welcome Signs. One avenue is checking with Glen Carbon about solar powered panels they are using for lighting on their signs. Arboricultural Specifications Manual and Mission Statement: Hiring Davey Resource Group and implementing Task 2 above will help us with our manual and Mission Statement. Clock Tower Article; Fence Repair: Laurie’s Place has a new owner; Clock Tower bed is city property; we may reconsider getting a bench for that bed. We would like the fence repaired. New Business: Tree City Application: 17th year we have made tree city status. We far exceeded our expenditure of $2/per capita requirement for tree city. 2017- work done- $7.25 per capita; 2016- $3.31 per capita. Arbor Day Celebration: Saturday April 28; Wolf Pack 72 is trying to get the entire Den together to plant a tree. Location is not determined yet. Report to City Council: Becky and City Council did a lot of work to help make Tree City happen for Edwardsville. We plan to make a presentation to city council this year to thank them. We will plan to go to City Council meeting this month instead of our regular meeting on 27th . Meeting Adjourned at 7:20 pm.
