Beautification & Tree Commission

Edwardsville Beautification and Tree Commission Minutes Meeting- April 24, 2018 Present: Larry Lipe, David Sirko, Wilma Jene Bond, Kim Schoenfeld, Zyann Kinney, Susan Bautsch, Jeff Papasek, Shawn McCue, Benna Denue, Bob Pfeiffer, Chris Farrar. Absent: Barb Giardina, Becky Standefer. Meeting called to order at 6:33 pm by Benna Denue. Minutes from February meeting approved with a motion by Larry Lipe and seconded by Zyann Kinney. Budget: end of fiscal year- $100 left out of $41,000. Continuing Business: Davey Resource Group Task 2- we signed contract with them. Task 2 encompasses Davey Resource group helping us look at ordinances and certified arborists. Will help us understand what we should or should not do. Clock Tower- Main Street focus on clock and fence- project started with planting of service berry tree and moving along great. Tree City USA- 17th year of having designation awarded to Edwardsville. Saturday April 28th (Arbor Day) at Meyer Y, Wolf Den pack 4072, St Boniface and St Mary will plant a Sugar Maple at 10:00 am. For Tree City USA. Intelligencer will be there for pictures. City Council Meeting on March 20- everything went well. Downtown Flower Pots- Monday, May 7th at 4:30 pm planting behind Wildey Theatre. Green Thumb Awards- Announcement in the newspapers and nomination forms on the website. We can have 12 winners each year. New Business: Two Guests: Shawn McCue and Jeff Papasek are sending emails to Mayor Patton along with a short biography with interest in membership to EBTC. Day for Giving back to the Community- Keller Williams Real Estate firm looking for a project to give back to the community. They are planning to paint the wrought iron fences around the clock tower and close to Big Daddy’s and buy and plant 5 shrubs on Main street by Big Daddy’s. They are also planning to clean the monument of Governor Cole which belongs to the State of Illinois on route 157, University Drive and Lewis Road.
