City of Edwardsville Council Proceedings May 6, 2014 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Edwardsville City Council was held at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers with Mayor Patton presiding. Aldermen Krause, Stamer, Louer, Stack, Butts, Risavy and Mallon answered present on roll call. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present. City Clerk McCracken administered the Oath of Office to four required positions in the City as directed by Mayor Patton. Motion Carried. Mayor Patton gave a Power Point presentation honoring his first year as Mayor for the City of Edwardsville. He expressed his gratitude to Administrative Assistant, Cheryl Watson for all her help and guidance. He also complimented the City employees for their dedication and work ethic. Mayor Patton acknowledged the number of current active employees as well as honoring the many employees who retired this past year including Mayor Gary Niebur and City Administrator Bennett Dickmann. Mayor Patton gave statistics for the Library, Parks & Recreation and the Wildey in regards to the number of visitors, activities, programs and events provided by each entity. He also recognized the number of volunteers who serve the City through Boards and Commissions providing talent, dedication, passion and years of service. Examples of Smart Financing were discussed including Wildey Technology improvements, the ¼ cent sales tax increase for new Public Safety facilities, extension of the Gateway Commerce Enterprise Zone, the 2014 Special Census and other factors will provide significant tax revenue for the city. Mayor Patton spoke of building better relationships with our neighboring communities for the future and the significance of the Old Lincoln School Revitalization Project, Park Improvements, the PARC Grant for the Metro Ice & Track Facility and the economic benefits for sports tournaments that would be held in Edwardsville. Also, Safe Housing and the Rental Registration and Inspection Program to provide quality housing to all city residents is an achievement of importance.
