Edwardsville – SIUE Community Destination Group
February 20, 2018
Present: Chad Verbais-Chair, Luke Jansen, Doug Rohrer, Jessica DeSpain, Paul Pitts, Walter Williams, Cheryl
Watson
Absent: Ramon DeShazer, Kim Durr, Kelly Jo Karnes, Matt Parrott, Megan Gooch
Chad opened the meeting at 6:13 p.m. No quorum.
Preview: - Chad, Kelly Jo, and Doug passed out bags, and talked to maybe 2 dozen people. The next Preview is
March 16, will need volunteers to man the booth. Paul and Jessica both volunteered to help. We would like to
have a parking code that we would pay for as we use it for $2/day. Doug will talk to Rich Walker about it.
Financials – Doug: Reported that we still have $4,215.72. We will have to poll members to purchase bags and
give-aways.
A-Frames – Kelly Jo: Nothing there now. Cheryl will coordinate with Kelly Jo to keep them current.
Springboard – Chad: Haven’t heard back from the SIUE videographer. We paid $1,085 for the first video and
an update was $100.
High School Counselor Fly-In: Will be held on March 23 at the Wildey Theatre. There will be 38 counselors
this year (32 from Chicago and 6 from Kansas City). Are any the same counselors as last year? We should
show the video! We looked at some inexpensive sample gifts, but they are the same as everybody gives out.
Plan to spend no more than $600. Water bottles, smaller tote bags? More sticky books, pens? Time to order
large tote bags through Casual Tees. Cheryl will coordinate purchases through the city.
Bridge Building City Campus Ideas:
Goshen Market is invited back to campus throughout the growing season! Dates are set.
Send a letter from the Mayor to Springboard parents welcoming their child to Edwardsville. It would
probably be about 2,000 letters. Could we cost share the expense? Cheryl will see what the city pays
for bulk mail. Include the “Selected Events” letter.
Could we get Chance the Rapper here for a concert through his Outreach program, SocialWorks? The
weekend before Labor Day would be the earliest possible time. The Vadalabene Center holds 4,000,
Grizzly Stadium holds 6,000.
A party in Township Park in the fall instead of the spring?
A restaurant crawl?
Rotary Student of the Month is ongoing.
SIUE Volleyball players helped the Rotary pack food boxes for Nicaragua.
Next meeting on Tuesday, March 20, at 6pm. Meeting adjourned at 7:27pm.
