Edwardsville Historic Preservation Commission Meeting (Amended on 1/13/14)
City Council Chambers
January 8, 2014
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Will
Krause
II. Roll Call:
Present: Debbie Caulk, Rusty Hughes, Cheryl Jett, Will Krause, Jim Zupanzi.
Excused Absence: Joe Hutton, Cindy Reinhardt, Kathryn Biarkis, and Kurt
Ackerman
Absent: Steve Mudge
Also present: City Planner Scott Hanson
III. Design Review: No COA’s this month
IV. Citizens wishing to address HPC: None
V. Approval of minutes of the December, 2013 minutes. Joe Weber made a motion to
approve the minutes. Jim Zupanci seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
VI. Treasurer’s Report. No report.
VII. Correspondence. Route 66 News. Wm. Krause noted that the magazine featured our
own Cheryl Jett.
VIII. Committee Reports
A. Leclaire. Mr. Allen completed a “Contributing and Non-contributing Map of
Leclaire.”
B. Route 66. Cheryl Jett reported that a Blue Carpet Corridor Coalition meeting of
Hamel, Gillespie, Staunton, Carlinville, and other downstate communities will
work on getting funds for tourism in this area. Mobsters, Miners, and the Mother
Road is a proposed theme of their proposed event, featuring individual
communities’ activities to draw tourists. Joe Weber made a motion to write a
letter to the City of Edwardsville and to the Glen Ed Chamber of Commerce in
support of the efforts of the Blue Carpet Corridor Coalition. Jim Zupanci
seconded the motion. The motion passed. Scott Hanson reported that the Rt. 66
card is missing the Rt. 66 kiosk.
C. Fort Russell report. No report.
D. ArchiRoom update. No report.
E. Attaboy letters. No report.
F. Historic Districts and Landmarks updates
i. Stephenson House. Jim Zupanci reported that fundraising efforts
are needed. He also reported that continued education of the
community’s youth about the history of Edwardsville through the
Stephenson House is an important key to its future.

IX. Old Business.
X. New Business. Scott Hanson reported that the Holiday Inn Express has broken
ground.
