Board Meeting Minutes
March 5, 2019
1. Meeting called to order at 5:01 by Chairwoman Janet Haroian. Members in attendance
included Janet Haroian, Suzanne Weiss, Skip Schmidt, and James Arnold. Park staff in
attendance included Bob Pfeiffer, Brenton Ward, Hayley Verheyen, Katie Grable and
Police Department representative Lt. Byrne. Our guests included Ryan High from Global
Brew, and the representatives from the Metro Milers Club.
2. Minutes read from February 5, 2019 meeting – Haroian moved for approval and Arnold
2nd the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved.
3. Events & Facilities Requests
a. Global Brew: Spring Beer Fest 4/20/2019 – Katie brought it to attention that the
parks department has moved the food vendors to the street. Bob recommended to
move Sugar Fire and 1818 to the street, and to get an overall list of vendors. Skip
motioned to approve the event, and James seconded the motion of approval. The
event was unanimously approved.
b. Faith Coalition: Sunrise Easter Service (04/21/2019) Susanne motioned to approve
the event, and James seconded the motion of approval. The event was unanimously
approved.
c. St. Boniface Church: Bonifest (05/24/2019 – 05/25/2019) Katie made the note that
there will be two streets closed instead of one. Suzanne motioned to approve the
event, and James seconded the motion to approve. The event was unanimously
approved.
d. Route 66 10K Race (06/08/2019) The representatives brought to our attention that
the course has been changed. Lt Byrne discussed that there will be problems
associated with the new route. The problems included, homeowners could be
blocked from their house and the amount of police officers need to guide the new
route. Suzanne motioned to reject the event based on the new route and skip
seconded the motion. Skip motioned to approve the event if the club uses the old
route, and James seconded that motion. The motion was passed unanimously.
4. Recreation Report
a. Ward provided league report about Youth Basketball. Men’s Basketball is wrapping
up the league. Ward updated on the softball registration numbers.
5. Program report
a. Verheyen provided information on the upcoming spring ESCAPE trips, provided
information on the Daddy Daughter Dance and Verheyen updated the pool flyer.
6. Information Items
a. Recess Brewing & Final Lap Race Management: Broken Spoke Brew Bike Ride – Lt.
Kohlberg, noted that they will need a police officer to start the race.
7. Other Business
a. Grable announced the official parks master plan will be discussed at the city council
meeting on 03/05/2019
Haroian asked for motion to adjourn the meeting, motioned to adjourn, and Arnold 2nd
the motion. Pitts adjourned the meeting at 5:47pm.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.
