September 2, 2025 Minutes
Commissioners Present: Cordova-Clough, Jeanniton, Shorey, Wooten, and Yaniz and Student
Representative Patel. Absent: Chavez.
Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
Public Comment
None.
Minutes for July 2025 – Motion made by Yaniz to approve, seconded by Shorey. Minutes approved.
Old Business
Update on Youth Connect
Commissioner Shorey provided details about the event entitled Youth Connect: Empower Explore
Engage. There were concerns about the timing of the event and the availability of space at the Centre.
Cordova-Clough made a motion, seconded by Yaniz, to table this item.
New business
Kiwanis Speaking Invitation
The Kiwanis Club invited a representative from the HRC to speak at one of their upcoming meetings.
(October 8,15, 22). After a brief discussion Shorey and Yaniz volunteered to attend the meeting.
Yaniz made a motion, seconded by Shorey, to attend the Kiwanis meeting on October 8th. Motion
carried.
MLK Subcommittee Update
There was discussion regarding the draft ordinance that the council discussed which would create the
MLK committee as an official subcommittee of the HRC. Until there is a long-term City Council decision.
There were questions regarding how the finances would work and when appointments to the
subcommittee would be made. It was suggested that an HRC representative try to attend the
subcommittee meetings. Commissioner Wooten volunteered to attend the meetings.

Budget
This item was tabled until the next meeting.
Transition Discussion
Chair Cordova-Clough announced that he would be moving and therefore this would be his last meeting.
Yaniz made a motion, seconded by Cordova-Clough, to have Vice Chair Shorey fill the remainder of the
Chair’s term. Motion carried.
Wooten made a motion, seconded by Shorey, to name Yaniz as Vice Chair to fill the remainder of the
Vice Chair’s term. Motion carried.
Miscellaneous
Standing Item: Budget updates
The Chair reviewed the budget including items rolled over from 2024, the MLK ticket sales and event
expenses. Currently there is $34,782.51 in the budget.

Motion made to adjourn by Jeanniton and seconded Wooten. Approved.
