Meeting of the Black Heritage Preservation Commission June 26, 2025 6:30 PM City Hall Room 101 & Zoom followed by a site visit to 350 N. Olive Street NOTE: The June 26, 2025 Black Heritage Preservation Commission meeting was held in person and online via Zoom. Members: Minister Monique Jones, Chair Lois Bryant, Veronica Huff, Vice Chair Wendell Huggins, Shawn Walker, Janet Allured, and Braziel Hatch City Staff: Kylee Cole – Long Range & Preservation Planner, Britin Bostick - Long Range Planning & Special Projects Manager Call to Order: 6:30 pm In Attendance: Lois Bryant, Wendell Huggins, Shawn Walker, Janet Allured, Braziel Hatch, Kylee Cole, and Britin Bostick. Approval of Minutes from the May 15 Meeting: Motion to accept by Commissioner Allured, second by Huggins. Approved by voice vote. Theressa Hoover Historical Marker Update – Commissioner Allured: Allured said the check has been received for the marker and will be deposited within the week. They will have one year to spend the money and complete the project. Bylaws Updates – Bostick reminded the Commission about the switch to the same software used by City Council and Planning Commission. The bylaws would need to be updated to remove the proscriptive meeting organization if the Commission was in support. Chair Bryant suggested the commission match with the rest of the system. Staff anticipates that this change could be in place as soon as the July meeting, but staff will continue to provide PDF and links during the transition. Huggins motioned to accept the bylaws updates as proposed, Allured seconded. Motion passed by voice vote. Staff will bring a version for signature to the next meeting. Announcements – Commissioners were excited about the new meeting room. Vice Chair Huggins asked if the new St. John’s marker was an example of what the Henderson School marker could look like. Bostick provided photos from today’s unveiling to show the high quality photo etching possible with the stainless steel marker option. Henderson School Marker Site Visit at 350 N.
