GENEVA CITY COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 17, 2013 CALL TO ORDER The June 17, 2013 meeting of the Geneva City Council was called to order at 7:11 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall by Mayor Kevin Burns. Aldermen present: Chuck Brown, Mike Bruno, Don Cummings, Dorothy Flanagan, Dean Kilburg, Craig Maladra, Richard Marks, Tom Simonian, Ron Singer. Aldermen absent: Dawn Vogelsberg. Also attending: City Atty. Charles Radovich, City Administrator Mary McKittrick, Asst. City Administrator/Dir. of Administrative Services Stephanie Dawkins, Public Works Director Dan Dinges, Deputy Fire Chief Mark Einwich, City Engineer Brian Schiber. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE PUBLIC HEARINGS, SPECIAL ITEMS AND PRESENTATIONS Presentation by Wendi Dwyer, Geneva Lions Club/South Sudan Lions Club Geneva Lions Club member and director of Lost Boys Rebuilding Southern Sudan Wendi Dwyer explained her involvement in improving literacy in South Sudan, and is working to start a Lions Club there. She also reported on various local groups who have contributed supplies and money to better that country. Ms. Dwyer suggested that the City of Geneva consider forming a sister city relationship with Malualkon, South Sudan. Geneva Lion Doug Warlick announced that Ms. Dryer has been named “Distinguished Lion of the Year,” and will be attending the Lions’ international convention in Germany. Mayor Burns presented Ms. Dwyer with City of Geneva lapel pins, City Hall 100th Anniversary medallions and a Geneva flag to take with her to the convention. Ald. Brown suggested that Ms. Dwyer contact Geneva’s International Cultural Exchange Committee (ICEC), which currently is seeking an additional sister city. Department Report Presentation: Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Mark Einwich spoke to Geneva’s paid-on-call (POC) fire fighter program. He said the fire department averages seven fire and EMS calls daily. He pointed out that the GFD currently has about 28 POC fire fighters. He then addressed the training and certification of the POC fire fighters, saying that they are trained similarly to the full-time staff, with all being certified fire fighters. OMNIBUS AGENDA All items listed on the Omnibus Agenda are considered to be routine by the Council and will be enacted by one motion. There will be no separate discussion on these items unless a Council member or citizen so requests in which event the item will be removed from the Omnibus (Consent) Agenda and considered in its normal sequence on the Agenda. Public Works Director Brian Schiber Mayor Burns introduced Brian Schiber, who is the newly-appointed city engineer and assistant public works director. He asked Eng. Schiber to provide some professional and personal background on himself. New CTA/Pace Ventra Card Mary J. Robb, community relations representative external affairs for Pace, explained the new Ventra card program for CTA and Pace train and bus riders. Encourage Swedish Days Attendance Ald. Brown encouraged all Geneva citizens to attend Swedish Days, June 18-23. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, moved by Ald. Marks, seconded by Ald.
