GENEVA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 3, 2014 CALL TO ORDER The March 3, 2014 meeting of the Geneva City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall by Mayor Kevin Burns. Aldermen present: Chuck Brown, Mike Bruno, Don Cummings, Dorothy Flanagan, Dean Kilburg, Richard Marks, Mary Seno (after being sworn in), Tom Simonian, Ron Singer. Aldermen absent: Craig Maladra. Also attending: City Atty. Charles Radovich, City Administrator Mary McKittrick, Asst. City Administrator/Dir. of Administrative Services Stephanie Dawkins. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by newly-appointed alderman Mary Seno. PUBLIC HEARINGS, SPECIAL ITEMS AND PRESENTATIONS Approve Mayor’s Appointment of Mary Seno to Alderman, Third Ward Moved by Ald. Cummings, seconded by Ald. Marks to approve the Mayor’s appointment of Mary Seno to alderman, third ward. Roll call: AYES: 8 (Ald. Brown, Bruno, Cummings, Flanagan, Kilburg, Marks, Simonian, Singer) NAYS: 0 MOTION CARRIED Clerk Landberg administered the oath of office to Ald. Seno. Ald. Seno then took her seat on the City Council. She introduced friends in the audience and expressed gratitude for being appointed to the office. Geneva Chamber of Commerce “60 Men Who Cook” Presentation Former alderman Sam Hill announced that the annual “60 Men Who Cook” fundraiser will be held April 4 at the Kane County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. He said the event is under the auspices of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, with proceeds benefitting the Geneva History Center and the charities of the Geneva Lions Club and the Geneva Rotary Club. He also noted that both men and women are encouraged to participate as cooks. AMENDMENTS TO AGENDA Mayor Burns wished to include a Closed Session on the agenda to discuss the purchase, sale or lease of real property for use of the public body. Moved by Ald. Brown, seconded by Ald. Flanagan to amend the agenda to include a Closed Session to discuss the purchase, sale or lease of real property for use of the public body. Roll call: AYES: 9 (Ald. Brown, Bruno, Cummings, Flanagan, Kilburg, Marks, Seno, Simonian, Singer) NAYS: 0 MOTION CARRIED 1281 Geneva City Council Meeting March 3, 2014 OMNIBUS AGENDA All items listed on the Omnibus Agenda are considered to be routine by the Council and will be enacted by one motion. There will be no separate discussion on these items unless a Council member or citizen so requests in which event the item will be removed from the Omnibus (Consent) Agenda and considered in its normal sequence on the Agenda. Bruno, seconded by Ald. Singer to approve motion as presented. Approved by unanimous roll call vote. (Omnibus Agenda). MOTION CARRIED Approve Ordinance 2014-08 Reestablishing Preliminary Planned Unit Development Approval and Granting Final Planned Unit Development Plan Approval for Phase 2 of the Development – First Baptist Church, 3435 Keslinger Road Moved by Ald. Bruno, seconded by Ald. Singer to approve motion as presented. Approved by unanimous roll call vote. (Omnibus Agenda). MOTION CARRIED NEW BUSINESS Geneva Film Festival March 6-8 Ald. Flanagan reminded all that the Geneva Film Festival will be held March 6-8, with festival tickets priced at $5, $10 and $15. Some 60 films have been entered in the festival. Thank You to Public Works Ald. Simonian thanked the Public Works employees who assisted him in thawing his frozen pipes recently. He also welcomed Ald. Seno to the Council. Ald. Singer Greeting to Ald. Seno Ald. Singer said that he knew Ald. Seno’s father-in-law well when he was president of the Proviso Twp. school board and Ald. Singer was a teacher at Proviso West High School. He wished Ald. Seno well as a member of the Council. CLOSED SESSION ON THE PURCHASE, SALE, OR LEASE OF PROPERTY FOR THE USE OF THE PUBLIC BODY Moved by Ald. Marks, seconded by Ald. Cummings that the Council adjourn to Closed Session. Carried unanimously by voice vote. MOTION CARRIED The Council adjourned to Closed Session at 7:19 p.m. Moved by Ald. Singer, seconded by Ald. Flanagan that the Council return to Open Session. Roll call: AYES: 9 (Ald. Brown, Bruno, Cummings, Flanagan, Kilburg, Marks, Seno, Simonian, Singer) NAYS: 0 MOTION CARRIED The Council returned to Open Session at 7:28 p.m. 1283 Geneva City Council Meeting March 3, 2014 ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, moved by Ald.
