CALL TO ORDER
The May 5, 2014 meeting of the Geneva City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in
the Council Chambers of City Hall by Mayor Kevin Burns. Aldermen present: Chuck
Brown, Mike Bruno, Don Cummings, Dorothy Flanagan, Dean Kilburg (via
teleconference), Craig Maladra, Richard Marks, Mary Seno, Ron Singer. Aldermen
absent: Tom Simonian. Also attending: City Atty. Charles Radovich, City Administrator
Mary McKittrick, Asst. City Administrator/Dir. of Administrative Services Stephanie
Dawkins, Economic Development Director Ellen Divita, Community Development
Director Dick Untch, Preservation Planner Michael Lambert.

Approve Resolution 2014-29 Appointing Ald. Dean Kilburg to Mayor Pro Tem for
FY2014-15

Proclaim National Public Service Week in the City of Geneva
Moved by Ald. Marks, seconded by Ald. Bruno to proclaim National Public Service

Proclaim National Preservation Month in the City of Geneva
Moved by Ald. Brown, seconded by Ald. Cummings to proclaim National Preservation
Month in the City of Geneva. Carried unanimously by voice vote. MOTION CARRIED
Dir. Untch took the occasion to formally introduced Michael Lambert, the City’s
preservation planner, who has been serving as part-time planner for more than a year.
Dir. Untch provided background on Mr. Lambert’s professional careers as an architect
and as an adjunct instructor at the Art Institute’s School of Historic Preservation.

Mr. Lambert expressed his pleasure at being involved in Geneva’s historic preservation
efforts. At the Mayor’s request, Mr. Lambert spoke briefly about the content of the
classes he teaches at the Art Institute. Ald. Bruno suggested that a presentation on the
City’s historic preservation process might be in order at some point in the future, with
Dir. Untch saying it could be the topic of a scheduled community development
presentation in July.
OMNIBUS AGENDA
All items listed on the Omnibus Agenda are considered to be routine by the Council and
will be enacted by one motion. There will be no separate discussion on these items unless
a Council member or citizen so requests in which event the item will be removed from
the Omnibus (Consent) Agenda and considered in its normal sequence on the Agenda.

NEW BUSINESS
Spring Clean-Up Day May 10
Ald. Kilburg invited anyone interested to volunteer for the City-Wide Spring Clean-Up
Day to be held Saturday, May 10.
Summer Open House Events
Dir. Divita announced that invitations have been sent for the “Meet Your Aldermen”
open house scheduled for May 21 at City Hall. Subsequent meetings will take place
during the summer with one ward being featured each month. Along with aldermen from
the respective wards, city department representatives also will be present to talk
informally with business owners and residents who attend.
Honor Flight Chicago Fundraiser
Ald. Singer reported that he attended the Third Annual Honor Flight Chicago Fundraiser
hosted by the DuPage Veterans Foundation last Saturday. He explained that the Honor
Flight program flies military veterans to Washington, D.C. for an all-expense-paid
daytrip to visit the war memorials. He expressed his appreciation to Dr. Richard
Jorgensen for organizing the event.
Soup to Nuts 35th Anniversary Open House
Mayor Burns congratulated the Soup to Nuts health store for its 35th anniversary in
business. He said he attended the open house, which took place last Saturday.
Geneva Beautification Summer Planting May 17
Ald. Flanagan called attention to Geneva Beautification’s summer planting to take place
May 17 beginning at 8:00 a.m. She invited those interested to participate.
