PRESENTATION OF ORDINANCES, PETITIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND BID
AWARDS
Approve Resolution 2014-83 Authorizing Execution of Letter of Request to the Illinois
Dept. of Transportation Regarding Illinois State Route 31 Improvements Related to
Implementation of Traffic Calming Improvements and Bike Path Lanes
Moved by Ald. Simonian, seconded by Ald. Maladra to approve Res. 2014-83
authorizing execution of a letter of request to the Illinois Dept. of Transportation
regarding Illinois State Rte. 31 improvements related to implementation of traffic
calming improvements and bike path lanes.
Questioning the need for two bike path lanes, Ald. Bruno asked if so referencing in the
letter commits the City to that configuration. Dir. Babica said that while two bike lanes
are now included in the modified phase one plan, there is no commitment as such and the
plan could change.
Ald. Kilburg asked as to the cost of the modified phase one report, with Dir. Babica
saying that the report is expected this week and will be presented at the next City Council
meeting. Ald. Kilburg also asked if there has been any discussion with the City of
Batavia regarding its participation. Dir. Babica responded that it is his understanding that
early on in the review process it was determined by IDOT that the average daily traffic
flow south of Fabyan Prky. would prohibit the installation of bike lanes on Rte. 31.
Responding to another question from Ald. Kilburg, Dir. Babica explained that once the
modified phase one report has been received, a public open house would be held at the
Council’s pleasure to receive public input. There being no further discussion, roll call:
