Board of Fire and Police Commission City of Geneva 22 South First Street Geneva, IL 60134 Minutes of the October 16, 2013 Meeting Conference Room – Geneva Police Department ____________________________________________________________ Commissioners in Attendance: Arnold Northrup, Brad Koontz, and Suanne Tompkinson. Others in Attendance – Alderman Dean Kilburg. Meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm by Commissioner Northrup. A) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner Koontz that the minutes from the September 18th, 2013 meeting be approved as presented. Seconded by Commissioner Tompkinson. All Aye, motion passed. B) PUBLIC COMMENTARY – None. Alderman Kilburg attended as an observer. C) COMMUNICATIONS – 1) Commissioner Northrup shared an email from Chief Mexin requesting the Board not to require background checks on Fire and Police applicants prior to the interview process, stating that it is very time consuming. Commissioner Northrup responded and agreed with Chief Mexin, but shared his concerns about background checks needing to be completed in the 10-15 day period between publication of the Preliminary List consisting of candidates who passed the written exam and interview and Final List consisting of candidates who were on the Preliminary list and now have also passed the initial background check. D) UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1) Commissioner Northrup stated that the Fire Fighter applicants had been notified that they have 10 days to apply any preference points to their final scores before the Final List will be posted. 2) Commissioner Northrup will be in contact with the Fire Department and the City of Geneva regarding the receipt of any of preference points letters. Commissioner Northrup will recalculate the numbers should any preference point letters come in and send the list out to Commissioners Tompkinson and Koontz and Chief Olson. E) NEW BUSINESS 1) The Board reviewed the Fire Fighter application questions and we have re-worded a few of them. Commissioner Northrup will update these and send them to the Board for confirmation before being approved. 2) The Board reviewed the schedule for the expiring lists of new Police Hire (6/18/14) and Police Commander (6/19/14). The responsibilities for these schedules will begin in January, 2014. F) ADJOURNMENT Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner Koontz that the meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Commissioner Tompkinson. All Aye. The meeting adjourned at 7:27 pm
