Board of Fire and Police Commission City of Geneva 22 South First Street Geneva, IL 60134 Minutes of the March 31, 2015 Meeting Conference Room – Geneva Police Department Commissioners in Attendance: Arnold Northrup, Brad Koontz and Jennifer McMahon. Others in Attendance: Stephanie Dawkins, Assistant City Administrator. Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Commissioner Northrup. A) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner McMahon that the minutes from the October 21, 2014 meeting be approved as presented. Seconded by Commissioner Northrup. All Aye, motion passed. Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner McMahon that the minutes from the December 18, 2014 meeting be approved as presented. Seconded by Commissioner Koontz. All Aye, motion passed. B) PUBLIC COMMENTARY - None C) COMMUNICATIONS – Commissioner Northrup reviewed email and other correspondence between himself, Fire Chief Olson, Police Chief Mexin, Administrative Assistant Dawkins, and miscellaneous parties. Most of the communications were issues that had arisen during promotion and hiring process. D) UNFINISHED BUSINESS- We will review the Fire Department Promotion Testing timeline at the April meeting. E) NEW BUSINESS 1. Update of the Rules & Regulation of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Stephanie Dawkins will revise and send back to the Board for our review and approval. Once it is approved it will be published in the News Paper and ten days later will take effect. 2. Approval of Fire Department Promotions and Hiring Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner Northrup that the Board approve the promotion of Firefighter Matt Lohse to Lieutenant (effective date 1/14/15), Seconded by Commissioner McMahon. All Aye, motion passed. Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner Northrup that the Board approve the Hiring of Nick Volz as probationary Firefighter (effective date 1/24/15), Seconded by Commissioner Koontz. All Aye, motion passed. 3. Approval of Police Department New Hires Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner Northrup that the Board approve that Conditional Offers of Employment be extended to Dustin Haney (sent 01/05/15) and Michael Walker (sent 03/13/15) for the position of Police Officer with the City of Geneva. Seconded by Commissioner McMahon. All Aye, motion passed. Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner Northrup that the Board approve the hiring of Dustin Haney as a Probationary Police Officer with the City of Geneva effective 3/16/2015. Seconded by Commissioner Koontz. All Aye, motion passed. Motion; A motion was made by Commissioner Northrup that the Board Approve the hiring of Michael Walker as a Probationary Police Officer with the City of Geneva effective 3/24/15. Seconded by Commissioner McMahon. All Aye, motion passed. 4. Commission cards for Firefighters. The Board will update all Firefighter Commission Cards. 5. Update on current Police Department Eligibility List. Commissioner Northrup will contact the remaining candidates to see their interest in staying on our list. F) ADJOURNMENT Motion: A motion was made by Commissioner McMahon that the meeting be adjourned. Second by Commissioner Koontz. All Aye.
