City of Geneva Board of Fire and Police Commission Meeting Geneva Police Department Conference Room 20 Police Plaza, Geneva, IL 60134 Minutes of the August 19, 2015 Meeting 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Northrup called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. PRESENT: Chair Arnold Northrup, Commissioner Brian Jones and Commissioner Jennifer McMahon ABSENT: None 2. ITEMS OF BUSINESS a. APPROVAL OF THE July 28, 2015 MINUTES Commissioner McMahon moved to approve the minutes of July 28, 2015, as presented. Seconded by Chair Northrup and unanimously passed by those present. b. PUBLIC COMMENTARY None. c. CORRESPONDENCE Chair Northrup reviewed the following correspondence • From Resource Management Services regarding the change in the Fire Lieutenant written exam date • To Commissioners regarding upcoming recruitments • From Jeanne Forinari regarding posting of the Firefighter/Paramedic ad • From Chief Olson regarding changing the Fire Lieutenant written exam and interview dates • From Chief Olson regarding questions asked by applicants 3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a. Review task lists for upcoming examinations for Fire Lieutenant, Firefighter/Paramedic, and Police Sergeant 1. Chair Northrup reviewed the schedule for the Fire Lieutenant Promotional list with interviews being scheduled on September 2, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Fire Station. He said that the written exam will be on September 18, 2015, at 9 a.m. and he will be present to represent the Board. Board of Fire and Police Commission Meeting August 19, 2015 Page 2 of 2 2. Chair Northup reviewed the Firefighter/Paramedic recruitment timeline and said that all the Board members should attend the written exam. The written exam will be on September 19, 2015, at 8 a.m. at the Fire Station. 3. Chair Northrup reviewed the Police Sergeant recruitment timeline and indicated that he had secured the test sites and dates. He said that the written exam will be on November 4, 2015, and he will attend as the Board’s representative. He said that sometime during the week of November 16th the Board will do interviews. 4. NEW BUSINESS a. Review upcoming dates and Board member participation Most of these items were covered under Unfinished Business. However, Chair Northrup noted that the only recruitment that the Board will need to do in 2016 is Police Officer. He said that Police Commander will come up on 2017 along with Firefighter/Paramedic and Battalion Chief. Commissioner McMahon said that the Board had discussed removing Police Commander as a Board appointed position that required testing and making it a Chief appointed position. Chair Northrup said that the Board should review that issue in 2016 when there were less recruitments to do. b. The next meeting will be scheduled for September 22, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fire Station. 5. ADJOURNMENT Chair Northrup moved to adjourn the meeting.
