City of Geneva Board of Fire and Police Commission Meeting Geneva Police Department Conference Room 20 Police Plaza, Geneva, IL 60134 Minutes of the November 24, 2015 Meeting 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Northrup called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. PRESENT: Chair Arnold Northrup, Commissioner Brian Jones and Commissioner Jennifer McMahon ABSENT: None 2. MOTION FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION – INTERVIEWS WITH POLICE SERGEANT PROMOITION CANDIDATES Chair Northrup moved to go into executive session under 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) (1) The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity. Seconded by Commissioner Jones and unanimously passed by those present. 3. ADJOURN EXECUTIVE SESSION Commissioner McMahon moved to come out of executive session. Seconded by Commissioner Jones and unanimously passed by those present. 4. ITEMS OF BUSINESS a. Approval of September 22, 2015 meeting minutes Approval of October 6, 2015 meeting minutes Approval of October 7, 2015 meeting minutes Approval of October 8, 2015 meeting minutes Approval of November 18, 2015 meeting minutes b. Public Commentary None. c. Correspondences Chair Northrup reviewed correspondence from Administration about registering Commissioner McMahon for the IFPCA fall conference, from Chief Mexin regarding an officer who had resigned effective October 10, 2015, from Chief Mexin about an officer candidate and his conduct during a ride-along, and from Chief Mexin asking about the deadline for evaluation scores regarding sergeant candidate interviews. Board of Fire and Police Commission Meeting November 24, 2015 Page 2 of 2 5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. 6. NEW BUSINESS a. IFPCA Meeting Report – Commissioner McMahon Commissioner McMahon provided copies of the materials she received at the Module 1 session at the annual IFPCA fall training conference. She said it was educational and would like to take other modules in the future. Chair Northrup said he would email City Administrator McKittrick regarding budgeting money for next year’s conference. b. Looking ahead to 2016 testing schedule and activities Chair Northrup indicated that he was working on the January officer recruitment. He said that we should have a meeting on January 12, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Police Department. He suggested the Board review the questions at that meeting as well as the February meeting. He said that after the police officer candidate list is established, the Board could also review its Rules and Regulations. Finally, Chair Northrup said it would be time for elections as well. 7. ADJOURNMENT Chair Northrup moved to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Jones and unanimously passed by those present.
