Minutes
International Cultural Exchange Committee
A Subcommittee of Geneva’s Strategic Advisory Committee SPAC
Geneva City Hall - Date: May 5, 2015 Minutes
1. The meeting was called to order at 5:17. Members present: Albright,
Alderfer Bald, Pool. Members absent: Cabeen, Kraus, Snyder. SPAC liaison
present: Backus.
2. The April minutes were approved as emended. Bald moved, Alderfer
seconded.
3. Treasurer’s report – the banner has been paid for; Angela has many supplies
left from past fundraisers, so we will have few costs in that regard for the
Wildwood event.
4. Media – Cynthia reported that the landing page on our website is functioning
well and that we will add video/photos, such as a Vimeo of a past Croissy
delegation visit, as we move along. An article, with photos of SPAC liaison
Brendan Cassin and Merrick Olson, winner of the logo design contest at GHS,
appeared in the high school newsletter; the photos will be forwarded to
Kevin Stahr for posting on our website. We discussed getting a Doodle
account, which would make it easier for the committee to communicate to
Cynthia availability for meetings and the like. Bobbi and husband Jim
Alderfer have been working to update email list.
5. ECI/GHS/Exchanges – Annie Creteaux’s granddaughter will be coming this
summer; Cynthia noted how wonderful that several generations from Croissy
will now be involved in our cultural exchange. Cynthia also suggested that
this summer we add a mixer/pizza party between the French teens visiting
the area and GHS and Geneva Middle School students to the activities we
sponsor during the summer exchange.
6. Greater Geneva Art Guild Festival – The ‘en plein air’ painting will be the
focus on May 29th. If the Chamber of Commerce can provide set-up/technical
support, we will show the History Museum’s ‘Tale of Two Cities’ slide show
on the 30th. This show highlights the cultural connections between Geneva
and Croissy. Lorraine Ochsner will be asked to contact Laura Rush of the
Chamber to make sure we have the necessary set-up/tech support on the
30th.
7. Fundraiser – there will be two $50 giftcards to Wildwood as door prizes.
Publicity, via Wildwood and our own vehicles, has been excellent. We’ll have
sign up sheets for anyone at the fundraiser who would like to help with the
delegation visit in September-hosting and the like. Bobbi will send out the
Evite again. Positive RSVP’s may seem low, but Angela said that most people
RSVP in the final week.
8. Croissy Delegation Visit September 11-15 – David updated everyone on a
Productive planning meeting Cynthia, Pam, and he had with Paula Krapf,
director of programming at the Library. She will work with her staff on an
intergenerational, activity-based program at the Library on Sunday Sept. 13,
between 2 and 4.
9. Swedish Liaison – David will follow up with contacts that Representative
Steve Andersson obtained in Sweden and at the Swedish Consulate in
Chicago). Cynthia noted that if we don’t get concrete results soon, we should
‘move on.’
10. Next meeting – there will be no meeting in June.
11. The meeting adjourned at 6:42.
Respectfully submitted,
David Bald
