International Cultural Exchange Committee A Subcommittee of Geneva’s Advisory Committee SPAC Geneva City Hall –Date: August 11, 2015 Minutes 1. The meeting was called to order at 5:18 2. Members present: Albright, Kraus, Alderfer, Snyder Members absent: Cabeen, Bald, Chalberg-Pool SPAC liaison present: Cassin SPAC liaison absent: Backus 3. The July minutes were approved as submitted: Alderfer moved and Snyder second. 4. Treasurer’s report: Accounts remain the same. The $100 Riverside Reception and $50 St. Charles Belle deposits are being reimbursed to C. Albright and being paid out of the city budget account. 5. Media: The current email list is being updated. Currently Mail Chimp is used to send out mass emails. Going forward we may consider using Go Daddy for keeping our electronic email and connecting with our members. Thank you to Jim Alderfer for his hard work on updating our members list with current contact information. 6. ECI/GHS/Exchanges: Two events this summer were held with the French teens visiting through the organization of ECI. Host students, their families, and their French guests, and a few of our ICEC members met at GHS for a tour of the school. They moved to Grahams for ice cream and more time to socialize. A special thanks to Grahams for picking up the price of the ice cream on both occasions. There was also a picnic at Potawatomie Park that both groups attended along with some of our ICEC board members. 7. SPAC Social: A few members of our committee were able to attend the SPAC Social that was hosted by Stephanie Dawkins. It was a very nice event and enjoyed by everyone. C. Albright had the opportunity to speak with Mark Brault (chairman of SPAC) and he has a European trip planned in the near future. He is likely to visit Croissy on this visit and meet up with some of our ICEC French counterparts. 8. GPLD Cinema: The Geneva Library will be presenting the film Les Intouchables on Sunday afternoon September 27th. ICEC members P. Cabeen and D. Bald will be leading the discussion at this event. ICEC has also been asked to run the film discussion for the November 8th Sunday Cinema. 9. Croissy Delegation visit: The following events will be open to the public (some for event fee): Penrose Pizza and Craft Beer Tour, St. Charles Belle Paddlewheel Boat Ride, Geneva Public Library Event, Riverside Receptions Gala Dinner. Events that will be limited to hosts, delegation members, ICEC board members, and invited guests: Arrival Reception, Walking tour of Island Park and HGM tour and video, Progressive Dinner, Ball Seed Tour, and lunch at the Mahaffey/Penrose home. 10. Additional upcoming projects for 2015: none scheduled at this time. 11.Next meeting date: TBD (October) 12.Adjournment time: 6:26 Kraus moved Alderfer second.
