1. Call to Order-Meeting called to order by Vice Chairman Walsma at 7pm
2. Roll Call-Backus, Juby, Lingham, Main, Merrill, Ploppert, Walsma. Also present-
Stephanie Dawkins, Anna Dispensa. Late-Chairman Brault.
3. Amendments to the Agenda-None
4. Approval of submitted reports
a. Approval of Minutes-Motion to approve –Backus; second-Ploppert. Motion
carried unanimously.
b. Approval of Budget-Motion to approve-Ploppert; second-Backus. Discussion
included that budget up to date; glitches in reporting credit card payments for NRC now
fixed; line item “new projects” used for strategic plan update expenses; NRC will use
remainder of monies for Earth Day; ICEC will use most, if not all, of their budget before
the end of the fiscal year; Student Government was suspended this year and will resume
2013-2014 with the same budget.
5. Sub-committee reports
Geneva Learners-no longer a sub committee of SPAC but a successful, stand alone
citizen group. All budget monies were reallocated.
Bike-Ped-Backus attended a joint bike trail meeting 3/18 in Batavia. Issues addressed
were signage, commercial opportunities, ingress/egress to path, financial opportunities,
grants available for improvement, difficulties with multiple jurisdictions that have
multiple goals. Also, Bike-Ped will be providing bike tune-ups at Earth Day at Peck
Farm.
ICEC-Ploppert reported that the new sister city in Sweden is set up for Skype. Also, an
exchange art show at Peck Farm Community Barn will highlight art work from middle
school and high school students from sister city Croissey. Geneva MS/HS student art
will be shown in Croissey. Planning for Swedish Days 2014 continues.
NRC-Walsma indicated that plans for Earth Day at Peck Farm April 20th are being
finalized. Wine, Cheese, and Trees fundraiser with Western Avenue Get Up And Grow
raised $10,000. After expenses, NRC netted $4500. 2 Stewardship Days are planned at
Fabyan Preserve from 9-noon this Saturday and in April.
Student Government-Dawkins met with Principal Rogers at the high school and
determined that Rogers, Dawkins, and new advisor Sue Khalaieff will work closely on
communication. After hiatus this year, re-launch of group will begin 2013-2014. In the
meantime, interested high school students are urged to participate in the strategic plan
student focus group planned for Tuesday, April 16th from 3-5 pm at the high school.
Anna will also be the eyes and ears in the trenches to spread the word about focus group
and student government.
6. Update on Strategic Plan process-Dawkins indicated that there have been 10 focus
groups to date with a community wide focus group on Tuesday, April 2nd from 630-
830pm at City Hall. Citizen surveys were sent out and survey available on line.
Approximately 500 have been returned. Timeline was reviewed. Discussion included
whether or not we could do more to promote participation in focus groups/surveys
(already in billing, on line, in paper, etc.) and ability to access mailing list from
Downtown Master Plan.
7. Additional business- Brault indicated future discussion should include a Public
Outreach sub committee to work with the city’s new communication position. Chairman
Brault, next meeting May 22nd @ 7pm.
8. Adjournment-Motion to adjourn Brault; second-Ploppert. Unanimous to adjourn at
8:17.
