City of Geneva Strategic Plan Advisory Committee Geneva City Hall Geneva, IL 60134 January 20, 2016 6:00 pm 1. Call to Order – Meeting called to order by Juby, Merrill - second at 6:02 p.m. 2. Roll Call – Brault, Cassin, Clements, Janis, Juby, Main, Merrill, Sarangabany. Also present Mary McKittrick; members from the Student Government sub-committee. 3. Amendments to the Agenda – none 4. Presentation on Home Rule – Mary McKittrick a. Mary took us through a presentation on Home Rule. Members of the Student Government sub-committee also attended this portion of the meeting. b. After the presentation, Mary and the students departed and we talked about these items: i. Understanding Home Rule better ii. Asking James Banovetz PhD and/or elected officials from neighboring communities to come to a SPAC meeting and talk about how Home Rule iii. Town Hall discussion possible iv. Ask for a list of what is prohibited, have a lawyer highlight what can be done and what cannot 5. Approval of Submitted Reports a. Approval of Minutes – Juby; 2nd Sarangabany Approval of Budget – Juby 2nd Merrill 6. Sub Committee Reports NRC – Juby a. Green Incentive: trees will be planted at the Geneva schools in spring of 2016. b. Wine, Cheese and Trees event scheduled for March 5 at the Persinger Center c. Earth Day is scheduled for April 23, 2016. d. Rain barrels for sale e. Promotional opportunities – Facebook, E-blasts, signage, catalogues, handouts Student Government – Sarangabany a. No Report. ICEC – Cassin a. Sunday cinema will continue b. Setting up a "friend raiser" in March to attract interested community members  c. Continuing to set up a Google drive to share committee information with each other rather than email d. Consider partnering with Croissy for a photo exhibition at Chateau Chanorier Sept. 8-18 with a total of four other sister cities e. Trying to figure out plans for a summer social: Bastille Day, Cinco de Mayo are both options. f. The next meeting is Feb. 9 Graffiti Project – Peterson a. None 7. Calendar review – Next meeting is February 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. 8. New business – a. Next meeting – further discussion on Home Rule i. Continue educating for the town hall 2016 ii. Understand what is already in the plan for Home Rule iii. Engage City Attorney, cost and possible? iv. How to educate residents b. Review Strategic Plan item by item, starting the process of refinement c. No applicants for Committee Vacancy. Need to ramp up efforts to fill 9.
