AGENDA ITEMS
A Chalk Art Festival Planning (D)
Commissioners discussed logistics and planning for the July 2 Chalk Art Festival. They
signed up for volunteering and artwork judging spots. Clown Garage will be providing
musical and performance art entertainment again this year. There will also be
professional chalk artists creating artwork throughout the festival space to engage
participants. The Chalk Art Festival will be part of the City’s official July 4th festivities
which include a community wagon float making workshop, a parade, a special farmers
market located at memorial field and a family fun zone of activities. The community
mosaic is complete and will be installed at the Senior Center entrance in July.
B Public Art Updates (I)
Amy Dukes provided updates on active public art projects including the mural at the
community center that is being developed with Urban Artworks, to be installed with
community members during the Aire Craft Festival in August and a mural at Pedestrian
Park on the Jak’s building to be installed by artist Mary Iverson. She also provided
updates on the summer story in the park that will be installed in Confluence Park later
in the summer. The creative district and KCLS have worked together to select “The
Artist” by Ed Vere as the featured book. Six new utility box locations will be wrapped
with artwork later this summer. Artwork selections for each location were reviewed.

R1 NOTES ON INITIAL SKETCHES
Ensure we’re representing our local hills
& mountains, (smaller + greener rather
than snow capped), local salmon rather
than koi
harmonize with the surrounding brick color,
be weary of pink, play with terracotta
from the brick
don’t extend mural too far onto brick above
consider nearby triangular/arched windows
on the right
bring quote and paragliding salmon in
from workshop, further develop sense of
emerging from the wall/electrical box
explore tightrope walker balancing on
something less literal and showing a
costumed paragliders
opportunity to add more detail on the
right hand side of design
Love the movement of bottom direction,
goldfinch, warm colors
