2.APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Dorris, seconded by Blaser, that the June 15, 2022
meeting minutes be approved. The motion carried by a unanimous vote.
3.CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS
None
This section is for anyone wanting to speak regarding agenda items and are allowed a maximum of 4 minutes. It is not a
question and answer period and staff, and the Commission members do not generally respond to public comments. The
City Clerk has a copy of the public speaking procedures; please note, speakers who engage in conduct injurious to the
harmony of the meeting shall be called to order by the Presiding Officer and may forfeit the opportunity to speak.
4. WELCOME NEW COMMISSION MEMBER
New member was unable to be present. Will introduce at the August meeting.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. DISCUSSION OF SUBCOMMITTEE (RE)APPOINTMENTS
The Commission discussed the existing membership on subcommittees and identified
different scenarios for each. There was also a discussion concerning dissolving the
Community Engagement & Partnership subcommittee and creating a special events
subcommittee instead. The decision will be put up for vote the August meeting.
B. FOR ACTION: (RE) APPOINTMENT OF SUBCOMMITTEES
i. Vision 2022
A motion was made by Simpson, Jr, seconded by Carmine, that Millen, Dorris, Adamowski
and Regis be appointed to the Vision 2022 subcommittee. The motion carried by the
following vote:
Aye: Adamowski, Blaser, Carmine, Dorris, Gorder, Las, Millen,
Simpson Jr, Stoiber, Wheeler, Alvarado and Cordero
Excused: Malone
Absent: Marcum, Regis, Summers and Posley

ii. Incubation
A motion was made by Stoiber, seconded by Alvarado, that Adamowski, Gorder, Stoiber
and Summers be appointed to the Incubation subcommittee. The motion carried by the
following vote:
Aye: Adamowski, Blaser, Carmine, Dorris, Gorder, Las, Millen,
Simpson Jr, Stoiber, Wheeler, Alvarado and Cordero
Excused: Malone
Absent: Marcum, Regis, Summers and Posley
iii. Innovation
A motion was made by Carmine, seconded by Blaser, that Carmine, Las, Millen and
Wheeler be appointed to the Innovation subcommittee. The motion carried by the following
vote:
Aye: Adamowski, Blaser, Carmine, Dorris, Gorder, Las, Millen,
Simpson Jr, Stoiber, Wheeler, Alvarado and Cordero
Excused: Malone
Absent: Marcum, Regis, Summers and Posley
iv. Funding
A motion was made by Carmine, seconded by Las, to appoint Blaser, Dorris, Posley, and
Simpson to the Funding subcommittee. The motion carried by the following vote:
Aye: Adamowski, Blaser, Carmine, Dorris, Gorder, Las, Millen,
Simpson Jr, Stoiber, Wheeler, Alvarado and Cordero
Excused: Malone
Absent: Marcum, Regis, Summers and Posley
v. Partnerships & Community Engagement
A motion was made by Dorris, seconded by Blaser, to table the appointment of
Partnerships & Community Engagement to the August meeting. The motion carried by the
following vote:
Aye: Adamowski, Blaser, Carmine, Dorris, Gorder, Las, Millen,
Simpson Jr, Stoiber, Wheeler, Alvarado and Cordero
Excused: Malone
Absent: Marcum, Regis, Summers and Posley

A. FOR DISCUSSION: Summer of Steel and Stone Event
Eryn Blaser reported on the status of the Summer and Steel event including the upcoming
opening and the strategy for promotion of the event.
B. COMMITTEE REPORTS
i. Funding Subcommittee
a. Art Walk
The Funding subcommittee provided an overview of the event thus far and future planning
efforts.

ii. Sponsorship Form
The group discussed different potential sponsors for this event. Will continue to work
collaboratively in a Google document.

b. Grant Update
The Funding subcommittee provided a recap of the latest grants to be submitted . They plan to
hear back from the Arts Council grant in winter or early spring. The National Endowment for
the Arts has been submitted.
ii. Arts Incubation
a. Sculpture
The subcommittee is performing field work to review the status of existing sculptures and
surrounding conditions.
b. Public Art Policy
The Incubation subcommittee reviews their past discussions and shares the use of Elgin
and Aurora's policy as basis for Joliet's policy formation.
iii. Arts Innovation
The Innovation subcommittee announces the opening of logo contest this week and due
date for submissions will be on October 1. Recommendations from the subcommittee will
be voted on at the October meeting.

7.ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Alvarado, seconded by Dorris, that the July 20, 2022 meeting be
adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
